from looking at the disassembly pics, it looks like if you make a window in the case you would be able to see the disk without modding the drive

does anyone know what kind of LEDs are used?

that would be a tight mod, just a dvd window... especially when sitting on its stand.

I agree, and maybe a few blue LEDs connected to the Wii's 2 for the disk bar for a really nice effect

---thought of another possible mod:
Making the LED bar stay on all the time while the system was on instead of only when you get a message, only downside is that you wouldn't know when you got a message sad.gif

wii forums: 96 topics 947 replies
ps3: 634 topics 7000 replies

guess we arent too far behind :/

I would estimate 65-85% of the topics on the PS3 forum are for bashing the system.

Everyone loves the Wii.... except the name

yea, I know what you mean xboxman

that is a great Idea liquid-core, it would also be a very nice effect (I'll use blue and red LEDs as an example):
on, no message - red
on, with message - purple fade
off, with message - blue fade

I don't mean to double post, but should we get this moved to the suggestions forum and have a redirect link here?

This topic has been pulled off topic but I agree it should be moved to the suggestion forums.

Onto modding:

I would be willing to, with the help of some other modders, map out the voltage points and other good to know information about the wii and its motherboard. This would really open up the scene to wii modders and possibly give us our own sections. I need to get a voltmeter (?) anyways so... Anyone up for it?

Maybe not a whole Wii scene, but a few additional sections would be nice. Stuff like General, Games, and Modification would be adequate and simplistic.

yea, this will be one awesome scene

once I get my screwdrive, I'll do the light mods

I'm not really too good at windows though, so that isn't an option for me

a really simple, really clean cut window would look awesome though

I've sigged this link to try and get more supporters

and also, if we get a main forum, the NDS could be a sub forum as I am sure that the DS will be mention quite a bit once homebrew takes off

I totaly love that Idea on the window!
multimeters aren't really all that hard, just set it to DC and touch a grounded point with one lead and othe points of interest, like the led points and fan points, with the other lead and see what comes up, also, the pins for the psu plug will probably be most valuable as they are probably a consistant voltage

If you guys want to start collecting mod related info on the Wii I'd be more then happy to start organizing it and put it in a Sticky...  smile.gif

I think a moding FAQ sticky with pinouts power souces for lights and links to various tutorials and another sticky with homebrew info.

While I have a chipped Gamecube myself I've never done any of the GC softmods so I wouldn't really know what to do to get that stuff running on the Wii... but if we can get some good tutorials together for that stuff I think it would be fantastic.

Basically PS3 has it's own section because Xant and the other Admins see the PS3 as a more mod-able and homebrew-able console with a larger community

but if we can grow the Wii moding community here it could convince them to expand into a Wii scene.
