from maxconsole

atomiX brings up a good point... putting a source of fire near your gaming consoles, accessories, or projection screen especially is NOT  good idea. /disclaimer

I can see it now. Light two candles and place under your projector screen. Turn around to grab your Wiimote and Nunchuk and then, POOF...no more screen.  biggrin.gif

Now that we know that the sensor bar is just an IR emitter and doesn't actually recieve any information, I am determined to build my own wireless sensor bar.  It would be really handy to have a wireless one to take with me when I travel with my Wii.  I don't want to have to unstick my sensor bar from my TV every time.

With this knowledge I suspect we could built a much better IR emitter...

I'd propose 2 vertical stacks that would mount to either side of the display. Shop around for some nice bright IR LEDs, I suspect it would work much better then the included sensor bar, particularly for those of us with Projectors.

Excellent idea.  A step closer to the Wii actually knowing the dimensions of your TV instead of guessing based on the IR and angle of the controller.

you would just need to make sure that the IR emitters are level so that the wii doesn't think that the remote is tilted

The IR only provides reference for the "light gun" like pointing features...

all of the tilting and actual motion sensing is provided by internal accelerometers and has nothing to do with the IR sensor bar...

The IR lights don't even have to be that precisely laid out as long as they're placed relatively the same way on both sides it should be more then enough.

all of the minor nuances should be squashed in the calibration so as long as the sensor bars don't move after you place them they shouldn't have any problems with accuracy or precision.

Yeah, I'ma have to make a wireless sensor bar as soon as I can manage it.

Alemerson, I watched the video without looking at who posted it and after a few seconds I was like... I recognize that voice... and that house... holy shit, it's Andrew.

And then there was Jamie. Good stuff.
