Buying Wii In The Uk On Release Day
« on: November 21, 2006, 08:32:00 AM »

Alright guys,

well i wasn't going to buy a wii but looks like i couldn't really help myself, i didn't get a pre-order but now i'm wanting to get hold of one on launch day.

As launch day is fastly approaching here in the UK i was wondering if anyone here has any idea what shops are getting the biggest number of consoles in to just sell to people without pre-orders? such as game, gamestation, argos, PC world etc etc

I didn't think there was supposed to even be a shortage on launch day, but looks like that may be somewhat wrong, if i can't get one on launch does anyone happen to know when the next delivery of the consoles will be made? i assume before christmas?

Cheers guys beerchug.gif

Haha i don't really fancy such a long wait! I don't really fancy sitting outside in the freezing cold weather here in the UK while it rains on me, i'd rather go abit earlier than the shops open and just try my luck, but i'm in need of some info of what people recommend ie shops to try, i'm thinking woolworths, argos etc but i don't know who is getting good allocations of the wii.

Ive been looking at the pre-orders on eBay and alot of them are selling for silly money, screw paying that much extra i'll just see if i can lay my hands on one at launch i think, if not i'll look again on eBay, probably a few days after launch i'd guess the prices may drop a ton simillar to what they did on the 360!

Although i didn't keep a good eye on the 360 prices after launch because i had already secured my 360's well before then  biggrin.gif

Anyone in the UK with any info please post in! Cheers beerchug.gif

ive asked around, and most places should be getting extra shipments on the saturday or monday after launch, of which there will be more systems than at launch.

what i suggest dano mate is going to your local small games shop and seeing if they have any preorders left, even for the monday or something, they probably will. The little games shop in the market in town that i visit is getting about 80 or something on launch, and its not a game, or a gamestation or anything.

i take it you didnt hear about amazons pre orders going live yesterday morning? they sold out in 8 minutes.

it's unlikely you will get one on launch unless you are lucky, but waiting a few days isnt so bad.

Ive got mine pre-ordered now and hopefully get it on launch, but a few days after is better than a few weeks.

Thanks for the info mate, should be helpfull, i'll give a few shops a ring as soon as i can and see what the plan is with them, see if i can sort one out.

The problem is for me here in Barnsley is there isn't any other smaller game shops in my town, there used to be but they went a long time back, ive got a game station and a game though but i doubt i'll get lucky with either of those.

I was thinking maybe woolworths or argos might have a chance with one of those on launch? or maybe even PC world, i might actually give them a ring soon and see what their allocation for the wii is, depending on wether or not they'll be willing to tell me.

No i didn't know about those pre-orders, damn if i would have known i'd have been sure to get one of those.

I'm actually getting my fiance one for christmas, so i'm running out of time to come up with a plan that will work and get it in my hands before christmas!

Thanks for the info anyway mate, feel free to let me know anything else you think may be usefull.

Cheers beerchug.gif

EDIT: do you think i have much chance of getting my hands on one on Friday or Monday if they are getting extra stock? Or are most places doing pre-orders for those days also?

I know the game website is still taking pre-orders, but there isn't anything saying they'll gurantee delivery before christmas so what do you think my chances are with them?

if you get a pre-order in soon then your chances of getting one before christmas are almost 100%.

it shouldnt be too hard to get one if you try, dont just "hope" you can get one though, make a pre-order, even if its for a later shipment.

Just thought i'd let everyone know ive made a pre-order at gamestation for the wii today, i was told they still have a good few pre-orders to take to gurantee before christmas, so anyone else in the same boat as me i recommend trying gamestation and making a pre-order, the pre-order is only a £20 deposit.

I was talking to the guys there and apparently i may even  be able to collect it on launch day depending on how many they get shipped straight in. They are getting confirmation of shipments next week or a little later this week so hopefully should be able to full fill everyones orders for christmas if you order soon.

Hopefully i'll be able to collect it soon enough which will secure my purchase for christmas. Can't wait to have some games on the wii.

Only 14 hours in line to be in the top five? I spent 22 hours in line and I was number 39  huh.gif.

While I was waiting in line here in Minnesota for only 3.5 hours for the Wii my bottled water froze.  But I guess it wasn't raining on me.  That would have probably sent me home.

nice

I had to wait 18 hours infront of walmart at temps around 20F
but it wasn't all that bad, I brought a few T.V.s, a power bar, an extention cord, and 2 360's and we had a syslink all night, it was great

then walmart yelled at us for being a fire hazard so we had to use a couple of my car inverters, all good though

on a side note, an Xbox 360 runs rather cool without even coming close to over heating on a truck bed in 20 degree weather

laugh.gif  Now if only we could get a natural stream of cool air from the outsides, at this time of the year in the UK we would struggle to overheat any console / PC, give it a little while and we'll be in the snow again, could possibly even snow on launch day? now that would be fun wouldn't it?  unsure.gif
