Xbox Boot Problem
« on: October 07, 2007, 01:50:00 AM »

Hey guys. I'd post this in the xecuter forum but I think it's more of a general hardware issue. I'm running a v1.0 box with an Xecuter 2.6 (on headers).

My xbox had been running fine modded for about 2 years. Now I'm having the "boot 3 times then amber/red" problem. It died over the summer while I was back home from school and my roommates were using it. It booted fine about 2 weeks ago with the modchip enabled. After using XBMC for a bit I tried booting with the modchip disabled - that's when I got the 3 boot + amber/red issue. Since then it hasn't booted into the full xecuter2 bios or the default bios.

My first thought was that I should just re-solder the D0 wire, but it's booting fine from bank 2 with the basic flashbios. And it appears that video output, controller input, and LAN functionality are all fine.

Any idea what the issue might be? My only guess is that it's the graphics accelerator, since that's probably the only component the other BIOS's use that the flashbios doesn't.

I tried re-flashing with no luck, I'll also try a few different BIOS revisions.

Thanks in advance.

Yes. Bank 2 has the Xecuter FlashBIOS 3.0.3; I'm able to use it to flash the bios via my web browser through HTTP. It detects all the xbox's hardware, gets its IP via DHCP, and video output over the composite video cable is normal.

If I try to boot either Bank 1 or no modchip, the box boots 3 times, FRAO's, and sits at a blank screen. If I eject the disc tray at this point , it'll start to display the boot splash animation - but locks up almost immediately.

That error code means hardware damage of some sort. Some BIOS types (your FlashBIOS and some versions of Cromwell for example) don't do the check (or try to boot anyway).

I heard of one chap who tried to add more RAM to his console. Best I can make out he botched the install, as the only way he could stop it rebooting and FRAOing was to use Cromwell and boot to Linux (where it simply ignored the extra RAM). Dunno if that helps, but I doubt the issue is with your chip (As that second bank seems to be working fine).

Thanks for the help.

Thanks, that's what I figured. My neighbor got an xbox 360 so I'll just pick up his old xbox on the cheap  smile.gif
