« on: January 09, 2007, 11:44:00 AM »

i haven't looked at anything from the psp-scene in so long, and saw that this was released and figured that the scenes still running along smoothly..but i haven't been able to find exactly what this firmware by dark alex does....

is it precisely 3.03 with full homebrew capabilities?  (still play psp isos, still play emulators and such?)

Yes, all 1.5 homebrew works (there might be one or two exceptions, but non i've encounted) and all the offical functions of 3.03

Aside from built in ISO support, the ISOs launch directly from the "MemeryStick" Screen.
There is also the PS1 emulator, with unoffical game support, so you can use games you've ripped and converted as well as those released by sony.

I havn't had a chance to upgrade from 3.02OE yet, but will asap. The Custom firmware is well worth installing.

Very true. Anybody with 1.5 should upgrade to 3.03OE-A2 (A2 is just a small update to 3.03OE).

Nice combination of all features from the newest FW but with homebrew support.

nope. not one disadvantage. even i you wont like it, you are able to downgrade again to 1.5. but i doubt you would ever do that.

so for once in your life, upgrade you badass psp ;-)

current version is 3.03 OE' and and within 24 hours a new version will be released

Only downside to upgrading to 3.03OE is not by upgrading from 1.50 but from 2.71 SE. The compatiblity list for NOUMD has shrunk a bit so some games that worked without UMD in 2.71SE-C only work by using a UMD and disabling NOUMD. Ridge Racer 1, GTA:LCS and GTA:VCS come to mind. I usually never bring any UMDs with me to save battery life, and it's convenient.

For some though, this is a non issue since it's now possible to play PS1 games. In my mind, playing FF9 and Castlevania outweighs the slight lack in NOUMD compatibility.

ahh, i might as well upgrade then, i 'm not familiar with noumd since i've been absent from the scene for a while, but from my understanding from what you or someone else said before..the isos can be located just in the game portion of the memory stick and boot right from there? no loader is needed? and what formats are supported by this integrated iso loader? cso perhaps? i like encoding my umds in that because it saves so much space

Just stick the ISO's in the usual ISO folder in the root of the memory stick. When you boot to the dashboard with the custom firmware flashed, it will automatically read from the ISO directory and display them in the Under Games in the menu.  It works really well.  If you want to boot homebrew stuff then you can put them in the Game150 folder.

Downgrade to 1.5
Upgrade to 3.03OE-A
>> 3.03OE-A2
>> 3.03OE-B

You may be able to jump upgrading to 3.03OE-A2 and go from 3.03OE-A >> 3.03OE-B

You can upgrade to 3.03OE from pretty much any FW that can run native/regular homebrew (ie: 1.50, 2.71SE).

Some updates like the recently released 3.03OE-B or 3.03-OEA2 are incremental updates meaning you need to have the full upgrading done (3.03OE-A) before applying those patches.

alright thanks guys, i upgraded and it works fine, i like it a lot better, nice to have all the new features and homebrew..

one quick question about ps1 iso conversoins though, i converted some of my ps1 games to isos, they don't need to be ripped any certain way do they? because after i ripped the iso, i tried creating the eboot with popstation but as soon as its finished it gives me an error sayign "cannot find STARTDAT in Not a Valid Psp eboot" and when i try to boot the game, it fades out to a black screen and jsut sits there..anyone else have this problem at first? i searched around but couldn't find any definite answers

Sounds like there might be something wrong with your BASE.PBP.

As for ripping my games, I use Isobuster in RAW image mode.

well i finally got it working, i ripped the game "the unholy war" it runs, but the only problem is it keeps pausing itself int he middle of games, even while i'm not pressing any buttons, are there little problems with each playstation game? or is there anything i can do to fix this if it happens with other playstation games?
