Ok, Finally Broke Down And Bought A Psp... I Need Help
« on: April 25, 2006, 05:54:00 PM »

OK, i am on the road enough so i finally broke down and got a psp. Now I am new to PSP hacking, I have read topics for 3-4 hours and need some basic clarifications.

My PSP is firmware 2.5.

I would like to run homebrew and 'other stuff' on it. What do I really need to do? downgrade the firmware to 1.5? use a Loader? etc.

Now if I downgrade to 1.5, what do I lose, can I switch back and forth between firmwares?

Thanks in advance.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but I believe what you will want to do is:

Downgrade your PSP firmware to 1.5

Get loaders which will allow you to play games that require a firmware upgrade (thus allowing you to stay in 1.5 but play games that are new.)

The answer to "can you switch back and forth?" is not easily. And you won't need to because you can use loaders to play games out of your firmware allowance.

besides sony's attempt to stop homebrew, etc, what are the major reasons for the firmware upgrades... it looks like the webbrowser is much better, true?

and what are the steps to downgrade to 1.5? do I need the GTA exploit?

I am pretty sure currently you need 2.00 in order to downgrade. But I am not positive if you can downgrade to 2.00 from a higher firmware, I know GTA has an exploit you may be able to use however. Let me look on some PSP hacking forums and come up with a definite answer for you.

above post is correct...
if you have a 2.01 or higher, now, and in the foreseeable future you are stuck with it.

you could however attempt to return it and find a 1.5

click here to check if its a 1.5

edit: you can still run some emulators, just not ISO's from memory stick (using GTA exploit)
