Reducing Iso Sizes
« on: October 05, 2005, 11:19:00 AM »

I want to know where I can get info on reducing the size of Psp Isos,  Like the thread we have going for xbox games.  Or if we can get one started here.

It seems like I heard that you can delete the music files from Lumines and it will still work.  Other than that I don't know.

it would be awsome to have a forum of this, well I know that you can delete some of the PMF files, which are used for videos of the game, like the logos, but you have to put a dummy file for that file you deleted ;)

Tools

UMD ISO Shrinker

This is a ISO specific tool, which only supports 4 games so far.

Yet Another UMD Shrinker

This is a more general app that will attempt to shrink any UMD.

Rip Kits

Rip Kits 1

Rip Kits 2

These are often batch files that run in the same directory as you ISO (or game files) and will shrink the game down by deleting files or padding.

*These tools and rip kits are often released to work with scene release, but they contain no copyrighted files (as far as i can tell)*

It would be a good idea if people can start posting what they can delete from there games to make them smaller, but the above should be a start for most people.

btw, you can use Winrar to extract an ISO you dump, and after editing/replacing the files, use UMD GEN to rebuild an PSP compatible ISO.

Some useful hints

I used the last method (UMDGEN.COM -  How To Make Your Own PSP UMD Rip .iSO Files - tutorial) with success. The only thing you have to worry about is to replace your deleted files with a dummy with the same name.

for example, in a certain game (1.3GB) there is a .pad file of more than 500 megs. It is very likely that such a file does not interfere with the game itself (i suspect it is an empty shell to counter illegal copying...). just delete this file, replace it with an empty one (same name), and you have a great chance of a working rip.
