Can't Install New Hd

The EEPROM is a little chip on your motherboard that contains info specific to your X-Box. This includes your region, and the data used to lock the drive specifically to that box.

When read to a file, it should be 256 bytes in total. You can load that up with LiveInfo if you like.

According to the error code list, you should get error 6 if the console can't unlock the drive (or error 5 if it wasn't locked in the first place).

Assuming the drive IS locked so your PC can't access it anymore, you should still be able to get back in via hotswapping.

As for what the actual problem is, I'm not sure...

It could be that you didn't set up the files on C correctly, and the actual softmod you installed is crashing without an error code.

Or, it could have something to do with the size of the drive - I think you can only go up to 120gb without flashing the TSOP (can't be done with a 1.6 console) or installing a modchip, and that's a 300gb drive if I read you right.

hi,

if your harddisk is locked with a wrong password, your xbox will boot into a error screen and give you a error 6 code. If the disk is unlocked, it will give you a error 5 code.

There are only 3 different eeprom versions. 1.0 (for 1.0 xboxes) 1.1(for 1.1 to 1.5 xboxes) and 1.6 (for 1.6 and 1.6 b xbox versions). So, if liveinfo says your eeprom is 1.1, your xbox can still be 1.1 - 1.5. It is just referring to the version of the file. It doesn't analyse your serial number to find out what version your xbox is. So, you shouldn't worry about that.

You will probably have a shadowc enabled on your original softmodded drive. Put a file ShadowC_off.bin in the root of your E partition. If you have a NKP11 folder in your E partition, put that file there as well. It can be any file containing just a few bytes, or a few letters of text.

Reboot your xbox and compare the contents of your c partition with those you backed up before. I can almost bet a beer on it that they will be different.

regards.

I never got any error message or any red lights...it just froze at the Xbox splash screen.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about the shadowc file.  Are you asking if there is one in there already, or telling me to create one and put it in the E file?  I think you meant the latter, so I tried it.  I created a text file and renamed it ShadowC_off.bin, then placed it in E and rebooted.  And yes, the C drive does look much different than what I originally backed up.

Original C backup has:

Config
Exovdash.xbe
items
xboxdash.xbe

The current C on the original drive has:

backup folder
font folder
SID folder
Skin folder
Skins folder
Trainers folder

Is this what you mean?

Take the new files you've found, and add them to the set of old files you had before. Rebuild your XBoxHDM ISO with the updated collection and use that on the drive.

green orange red is not a normal LED condition
it is a clock unset indicator for NKP11
was not sure what you had

did you try IGR when it was displaying that or trying to boot a backup

NKP11 is (a part of?) NKPatcher (which sounds like part of your particular softmod install).

IGR stands for "In-Game Reboot", which means you can press a combination of buttons on your controller to, well, reboot the console. There are various button combos out there, for me Start + Back + the two triggers does it.

Take the old drive, bung it in the console, and make sure the thing knows the time. Put the new drive in (keeping in mind the console will forget the time after a few hours if you shut off the mains), and if it still flashes red and orange and green (FRAOAGs?), try the IGR and then booting the system with the DVD drive open.

Okay, using xboxhdm, I reformatted and locked the HD with the original disk I made.  It said everything went smoothly.  I placed it back in the Xbox and got the same results (freezing at the main boot screen, but no flashing colored lights on the console.)

Someone else suggested NKP11 on another forum, but I don't have that folder anywhere.  The original drive shows the correct time in both UnleashX and XBMC.  I tried IGR and leaving the disc tray open, but no dice.  I couldn't get it to reboot using any keypad combination.

I originally thought I had a corrupt eeprom, or possibly the wrong one.  However, I used ConfigMagic to back it up, and xman seemed pretty confidant that it was, in fact, the correct file for my xbox.  So now I am wondering if I am missing some other important files.  I have made copies and backups and backups of backups....so I am starting to get them all confused.

How feasible would it be to get all the other original stock files (without the eeprom) from someone?

As mentioned, if the EEPROM reading/drive locking didn't work, your console should give specific error codes on the screen. That's all XBoxHDM wants that file for by the way - locking the drive.

The original XBoxHDM CD you made won't work, because it doesn't include all the files that are needed for your X-Box to boot a dashboard. The stuff obcd got you to do with the "ShadowC_off.bin" file revealed those files you missed. Those files are not optional, hence the reason your softmod installer hid them in the first place - so they didn't get deleted by accident.

Putting just the MS Dash on C should "work" regardless as to which console it comes from, but it's a bit pointless... You should be able to boot games regardless as to what's on C, and it won't help you fix this any more then XBoxHDM will.

Assuming you haven't already got it on the drive (and unless you deleted it from your original drive before copying the contents of E to the new one, you should do... You did copy across everything on E, right?), XBoxHDM will allow you to add the autoinstaller savegame so you can re-do the SplinterCell exploit. Going by everything you've mentioned so far, this would probably be your easiest path at this point.

Oh, one other thing. If you create a partition larger then 256gb, you need to format it with XBPartitioner (check X-Bins for this). Stick that on the top of your to-do list once you get this new drive booting up if you didn't split all that space into smaller allocations. Failure to do so results in the loss of up to nearly all your files.

I may have missed something, so I apologize..but..

1) Make sure you backed up your actual eeprom. softmods can have a virtual eeprom.
-Make a file called eeprom_off.bin in E:\
-OR boot the game you installed the exploit with and backup the eeprom from there. (If your exploit has that option)
2)You could eliminate any softmod issues by:
a) Setup your new hard drive with STOCK ms dashboard files and lock it, softmod it after it's booting and locked properly
B) Setup your new hard drive dashboard with files from kingroaches ndure PC installer. Just tick your kernel version and setup for xboxhdm disk.

The backup I have of my old MS Dash from C: looks like this:

Audio folder (You can delete this one if you don't mind having no sound, or add it to your UnleashX folder to add sound there - assuming you didn't already put that dash on the root of C: anyway.)
fonts folder
xboxdashdata.185ead00
xodash
settings_adoc.xip
XBox Book.xtf
Xbox.xtf
xboxdash.xbe

E: should have the folders Cache, UData, and TData. These mainly deal with your save game files.

Any additional files or folders you might have are either part of your softmod (they'll vary depending on which softmod you're actually using), extra dashboards you've installed (eg. UnleashX, EvoX, or XBMC, any of which can be installed pretty much anywhere you feel like), or files created by homebrew software (such as emulators).

Note that your softmod will have replaced some of the MS Dash files on C:, and probably added some files of it's own (eg. evoxdash.xbe). So if you didn't backup your MS Dash before softmodding then you probably don't have a stock version anymore.
