Biggest Hard Drive?
« on: September 22, 2007, 12:43:00 PM »

Hi,

What is the biggest hard drive that a v1.4 xbox running a X3 chip and Unleashx can handle?

Thanks, th3gh05t

Currently?  What he said^.

Actually there are 1TB drives now I suppose.  Just make sure you format with 32kb clusters.  Honestly I'd have an F and G too.  A 500GB F for media, 500GB G for games and apps.

I used to have a drive in a box that big but damn, it was just silly.  Ive got pc's all over the house networked and its a better solution all the way around.  250's are as big as I'd go now.

70$ or less, cant beat that when just a few years ago we paid 200$ for em.

QUOTE(murkiez @ Jan 14 2008, 06:56 AM) View Post

I've got a 160, but now when I've got like 30 games and a lot of anime eps (160 MB each) my HDD is pretty much full, I want to get a 1TB (envy, ENVY!) but I would first probaly get a chip for it (softmodded). But I have never soilderd before and I don't want to hurt my precious 'box.

It doesn't matter how you are modded, except for the .67 option for the BIOS. That enables the F and G drives which you would need.

I agree with Heet, there isn't any sense in keeping your music and movies on the Xbox when you can network it out. Sure it is great for traveling. But to keep on the shelf in the house, I could settle for a 20-40gig drive. Having said that I just purchased two 320gig drives for future projects at $65 each. My main Xbox must have sensed new blood in the house and crapped out my old HD. So, now one of the new drives is in my oldest Xbox. If I can find a smaller one at a great price I will trade it out though.

So after rambling on, you can put in a 1tb drive if it is split into F and G drives and formatted with Xbpartitioner with 32k clusters. (like mentioned before)

Partitions over 256gb need to be formatted with XBPartitioner.
Partitions over 512gb can't be done (unless you only want to use Linux with the console).

Hence the practical limit is about 1tb (as you can only create two "large" partitions).
