I had dev hook 0.46 on it a long time ago then like i deleted everything on the mem stick from the pc and well, it just screwed up. It like boots, it sais "sony computer entertainment" but just before it supposed to boot into a game or the main menu, it freezes?

Assuming the guy isnt lying to me about what happened (sometimes they do..) that sounds like the PSP is trying to find a file, but it doesnt exist cause he deleted it.

Is there any ideas as to what might cause this? Am i going to have to buy a modchip to recover it?

If someone could give me a bit of help with this, thatd be great. Even if i dont end up fixing it, broken PSPs go well over $150 on ebay, so its not like ill loose money if i cant fix it...

Yeah, It sounds like he bricked his psp if what he is saying is what really happened.

I'm not all that great when it comes to devhook and how it works, so im assuming by him deleting all the files that are supposed to get flashed to the flash0 then it is possible that it became bricked


There is only 2 ways to fix the brick.
1) replace the motherboard
2) Modchip

There might be one other way, but its pretty much impossible for people like me and you to get the things needed to do it so im not even going to go into details on it

Yeah, I was thinking a modchip might be the only way... But that alright lol Ive wanted to install a psp modchip for a while now lol it looks like a good challenge.

So do system files get stored on the memory stick or something? And even if it still comes up with the sony computer entertainment logo and partially boots and everything, does that still mean its bricked? Or would a recover of some sort be a possibility?

Ill ask around some other forums and see if theres another way

I've never really heard of a bricked psp showing the SCE intro though, so it kinda confuses me

You would be able to recover it easily if the person just put on a custom firmware instead of using devhook

But since the guy used devhook and messed up somehow, there is no way to recover other than a modchip and that other way thats not feasable(sp?)

Normaly when a psp bricks you get a blank screen and the m like flashes then stops. Devhook is a psp emulator that emulates higher firmware so if he cleared his memory then it might be trying to find the fw. Im not sure how it works as i stayed well a way from it. Mine has DaX's custom firmware 3.03e-c which goes fine.

OK I got the PSP today in the mail.

When it boots, it shows the SCE logo and plays the jackass theme song noise (obviosuly put in by the guy who owned it) and it shows the background waves, shows the little 'bus' icon in the bottom right hand of the screen, and just freezes. It stays like that for about 15 seconds and turns itself off.

It sounds a lot like something is wrong inside flash0.

Now, i booted into the recover menu, and the only options i have are:

Press start to activate USB Mass
Pres triangle to flash ms0:/index.dat to flash0
Press cross to start the program under ms0/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PB

There isnt a way to access flash0.... it must be a pretty old FW.... I tried to make it boot the 1.50 update ussing the 3rd option, but it just reset and froze like usual...

Is there a way I can access flash0 with this? If someone could help, thatd be great!

apparently the only custom firmware that will have a recovery menu like that is Harleygs custom firmware. I read some things that doing different things during startup (putting on hold swtcih, holding X, etc...) can give me different options. However every time I try to boot it whilst holing a button it just gives a black screen and acts like a typical bricked PSP... So i can only access the recovery menu i was ltaking about in my last post..

Is there a way I can access the flash0 files through the computer or something?

Most of the newest Custom Firmwares have an option to access flash over USB in read and write mode. But dont know of any homebrew apps that allow this ( there is one with read mode over USB, but thats no help really)

You could try booting PSPFiller on it (put it under ms0/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PB, as a non-kxploited eboot), as that can acess the flash and repair semi-bricked PSPs.

And the sellers explination of deleting files from devhook, wouldnt cause this, devhook is self contained on the MS, deleting it or any of its files from the MS, wouldnt of caused this, hes deleted something from Flash.

I cant say what files are damaged/missing, but you should look into dumping a copy of the 1.5 firmware ( or getting a friend to) And writting it to flash, if the Sony Update fails, there is a universal firmware flasher floating around somewhere (forget its name, or who wrote it), but it can write the offical firmware to flash without using Sonys installer.

btw, did you flash a version 1.0 index.dat via recovery before running the 1.5 update eboot?

Yeah, the new custom firmwares are great, they have everything.... but obviously this guy modded the psp when modding was kinda new or something...

I just downloded PSPfiler, so ill give it a go. He obviously has deleted something from flash... I just dont know how he wouldve managed it though, theres no way to access flash....

I just need a way to access the flash... Once i can access it, fixing the psp is easy...

Try and get to a OE firmware.

You need to get USB access (or just plug the memory stick into your computer if you have a slot) and put the oeupdmaker folder from 3.40 OE-A (or any other OE firmware you wish to use) in PSP/GAME and rename it the oeupdmaker folder to UPDATE.

Then put both official sony 1.5 update and official update for the other fimeware (I will be using 3.40 update), and rename them 150.pbp and 340.pbp, now when you select ms0/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP it should make your DATA.DXAR for you

Daxs Have recovery menu which saved me once yeah i would try This  to flash back to 1.5 then install custom fw i recommend..... Dax's 3.03 oe-c above>.
