Well, I should have put a disclaimer. I am expecting a hardware mod to be released by or shortly thereafter the 3.0 firmware is released and shipped as is on new PSP's.

Just out of curiosity what homebrew apps would you most miss if you were "forced" to update. Right now I am holding out on homebrew, as I am running 2.5

UMD emulator!

couldnt live without that... so nice to be able to choose between 3-5 games while in school instead of carrying around UMD discs

just wish i had likea 4GB mem stick so i could have like 8 games on it!

I could live without it, but the PSP Universal Remote application is always fun to play around with at school

A few companies have "put" one out there.. but they aren't universal.. and most still look like ass.

I'll upgrade one of my PSP's to 3.0 to see what it's like. Probably keep at least one for homebrew. NOt that I bother running any anymore.

I have no need for GPS, and i dont want to email people "on the go", i'll just ring them.

I realy want a 4GB stick, but i'll wait till Sandisk release one, and its cheap(er).

I think I am just gonna upgrade for the hell of it. Homebrew just doesn't do it for me, or am I just missing that one app that will give me stains in my pants? What apps am I not seeing that are teh coolorz? nothing that Sony already has or will have???

you mean you would give up running psp ISO's from a memory stick for some new sony upgrades? come on.. what can they offer you that fast loading multiple games at once cant?

lets not forget SNES emu, Genesis Emu, partial GBA emu... doesnt the list go on?

I was under the impression that I will still be able to run homebrew with the 2.x firmware levels.... I am a serious newwwwb though.

As far as ISO's go, I am taking a new approach to the PSP (remember this is just my opinion, obviously not shared by many here due to the nature of "where" we are). With the Xbox I had so many games that I only ended up playing maybe a quarter of what I had. I got bored with games faster, had less motivation to finish games, so on and so forth. I noticed the games I bought I spent way more time playing, enjoyed them more and got more out of them. I plan to keep the minimalistic approach with the PSP. Although the idea of having every game at the touch of a button is cool, I know it won't be as satisfying. Homebrew roms excluded of course. I will use the memory card for video and photos, I really do like the idea of GPS (if implemented right) as long as they put out a decent dash mount with it. I like their browser, and would like to find/start a ring of PSP "Friendly" web sites. It is not like sony is implementing crap for features, they need a good keyboard (wireless or not) for the browser and it will be great for browsing while on the shitter or in bed. Now as far as hardware mods for this, I would definately be interested in trying this out. I liked having different dashes for the Xbox and would like to see what creative minds could come up for this device. Sorry for the drawn out thought....

well.. my standpoint is...

loading time comparable to xbox from disc to HDD is nowhere near comparable time on psp UMD to MS....

some UMDs take forever to load, im seriously hooked on a couple racing games for psp, namely burnout and ridge racer... and there is seriously no loading time from memory stick... and really all i care about on psp is video and games...

ripped a dvd and converted to mpeg 4, a 1hr37m dvd ripped from 4.36GB to 605MB was pretty decent quality

Is that about the average ratio of rip's? I just got my 2gb so I am getting ready to start ripping DVD's like crazy.

I follow you with the load times and everything, but the temptaion to have TOO many games would be there for me, it is hard to explain. Load times aren't too big an issue with me, my ADD isn't too severe

as far as the conversion rates, it was the first id ever done... but im pretty sure it rips to fit a 1GB stick unless you specify a higher bitrate

basically:

use Eazy VCD to convert the dvd straight from dvd drive to mpeg ==> use psp video 9 to convert the mpeg to mpeg-4 and to put it onto your psp !
