To find your version, from the system menu(turn it on without a game or use the home button). Select Settings -> System Settings -> System Information.
If it's version 2.0 then there is a list of the new features in the 2.0 firmware that are not built into the previous firmware.
Versions for the bulk of homebrew are 1.0 and 1.5. You can downgrade from 2.0 to 1.5 using the neat downgrader tool.
