Mirc Problems
« on: March 02, 2009, 04:02:00 AM »

I'm having problems with mIRC.  I've used mIRC in the past, but that was before I started using a router.  I have a Speedstream 6520 and I'm sure I forwarded everything correctly, yet every sever I've tried would not connect in mIRC.

Here's a screenshot of what I have allowed access to on my network page.

do you have mcafee or some other antivirus installed, sometimes they will default block port 6667

Thanks, but that didn't work.  I also tried disabling my regular firewall which didn't work as well.

If it's any further help the message I get is "connection timed out".

i would check for any other software firewalls you might have, as well as antivirus, antispyware or antitrojan programs (many of them will block mIRC since some trojans and spyware use it to "call home")

also, its not necessary to forward any ports on the router, thats only for connections initiated outside your LAN (for example you dont have to forward port 80 in order to browse websites)

i dont have any ports forwarded and i use IRC daily on multiple computers

have you tried other networks? none connect? or just one?

sometimes mcafee and other shite firewalls will put filters on your Internet Connection - check there from control panel and see if everything looks ok - no special filters or settings, everything should be automatic.

IF you need to forward follow these:

www.portforward.com

also - try DMZ.. if DMZ works, then you arent forwarding correctly. If it still doesnt work, its most likely something on your computer blocking it.

but you really shouldn't need to just to get on IRC

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had used the faqs on PortForward for my router previously, so I thought I forwarded correctly.  However, when I enabled DMZ, IRC worked.
