Hd Issue
« on: August 02, 2007, 07:32:00 PM »

I recently lost files from my 160HD, not literally lost, but it has disappeared from the HD, but the memory is not accounted for. Reading around I have read about cluster sizes? could this be the same reason that my files are missing? Any way to upgrade to the different cluster size with out reformatting the drive as i have file on there that i cant replace.

Cluster size isn't your issue. Not something that you need to worry about until you get over 250gb drives.

Hey Movax

Some of these .iso files are over 4GB. Would that be the cause?

Movax thanks for the info. So one file over that size would cause an entire folder of files to not be visible? What i have been doing is copying dvd's into the xbox HD and then transfering them over to my computer and shrinking them down and turning them into ISO files. So this limit applies to a single file?

How would i go about fixing this issue?

Hi,

use the DVD2xbox program to extract your dvd to your harddisk. You can ftp the folder over to your pc and use dvd2one (or another program) to extract only the stuff you find usefull (to decrease it's size.) Don't recreate a Iso, just ftp the folder with all the files over. They shouldn't exceed the 4Gb limit.

With xbmc select the video_ts.ifo file, and your dvd should play.

regards.

Sorry, it is not playing the whole video.

I am just trying to figure that out.

ok,

when you are on the video_ts.ifo file, hit the white button and select to play it with the MPlayer.

It started the movie in my case. It doesn't shows me the language selection menu anymore.

Maybe, it's easier to play them as iso, but you will need to use a program like dvd2one first to make them smaller than 4 GB.

regards.

Hi,

I don't have the play dvd option....? Could this be due to it being a older version? Maybe it is some setting?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

regards.

I really appreciate that. As for the ISO files that i already had there...any way for me to retrieve them? or gain that space back?

I just realized...you can rip your movies to ISO and split them into RAR files. XBMC can playback DVDs in ISO format through the RARs...if you follow. Just split the RARs in segments smaller than 4gb.

No sure if writing a file larger than 4gb will corrupt others, possible I suppose. If the space is still gone, I suggest you reformat the partition.

If you know the EXACT filenames of the "missing" ISO files you could create an empty text document and rename it to "WHATEVER.ISO" and try to copy it over to the XBOX the same way you did before. MAYBE it'll prompt for overwriting the file?
