Don't get me wrong, Im still a huge Xbox fan. I just didn't like using my 360 to watch movies. Less wear and tear equals less chance of RROD IMO.

I modded my Xbox 360 HDDVD player and installed it into my Home Theater PC. Hope you guys like it. By the way, have you guys seen Transformers in HD yet??? Holy Cow!!!!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Crap in HD is just HD crap, and unless there's a 360 in there as well this isn't exactly a 360 mod and should be in the PC section. The 360 is a retched DVD player anyway, why anyone would use it for watching movies when most sub $50 DVD players provided a better picture boggles the mind.

Actually I have an nice DVD Player that used HDMI and would up-convert normal DVD to Near HD quality. With a 360 on HDMI it can up-convert as well, and it actually had a better quality picture then the DVD player I had. I haven't used component cables because that is an analog signal and won't allow the 360 to up-convert the signal. All in all, the 360 has a really good DVD player.

 What?
the 360 is very good at many things but it's DVD playback is definitely not very good. I never play DVD through it. a £70 Toshiba stand alone creams the 360 as a DVD player.

That is wierd, on my setup it looked better then my Divx/DVD Upconversion player that I spent about 100$ on. I had them both set on my TV at 720P and the 360 has a better picture I would say. Then again I can't have a super awesome HD TV liek a lot of you guys. 720P Native was all my Christmas present got me 2 years ago.

Sorry for the late replys guys....

It is a PC not a 360. Sorry RDC, yes I should have posted in the PC section. Thought it might go over well here. And the comment you made.... "Crap in HD is just HD crap", what did you mean by that. Have you seen Planet Earth, or Transformers in HD-DVD?? I guess you could say, "Its amazing looking crap".

I agree with Chancer, the dvd player is definitely not very good. I didn't like using my 360 as a DVD player anymore. So I moddified my HD-DVD (which may be obsolete soon anyways) player to fit into my PC case.

The 360 is an awesome "gaming" machine, who care which HD format wins, I don't. I just thought Id share a recent mod of mine.

Cheers

I just meant the movie man, the MC and all looks nice and with the 360 HD-DVD drive in there I'm sure it's near doubled the value of it, for now anyway like ya said. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Moved to PC Case / Hardware Modding, and if ya ever crack the thing back open and stuff a 360 motherboard in there as well I know everyone in here would like to see that, the insides especially. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Will do RDC. The inside is nothing special, ugly really. I used black electriacl tape on the circuit board to keep things from shorting out. But yes, I will take pics next time I open her up.

Sorry for the delayed update guys, heres the inards.....

(IMG:http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/xzener/XboxHDDVDMod009.jpg)

(IMG:http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/xzener/XboxHDDVDMod008.jpg)

As you can see, electrical tape so nothing shorts out. The HDDVD drive is the bottom one. There is a PCB taped to the back of another DVD drive.

I liked how everthing turned out but it wasn't quite finished though, I still had a power brick powering the drive outside of the HTPC case. So I decided to tinker, yet again...

(IMG:http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/xzener/XboxHDDVDMod004.jpg)

I found this unused power connector and used my DMM to see what voltages were on it...

(IMG:http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/xzener/XboxHDDVDMod005.jpg)

Sure enough, it has 12VDC... WOOHOO!!! SNIP!! SPLICE!!

(IMG:http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/xzener/XboxHDDVDMod006.jpg)

Walla!! An internally powered Xbox 360 HDDVD player in my HTPC case, now its time to fix this issue....

(IMG:http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/xzener/XboxHDDVDMod010.jpg)

I still have it hooked up via USB externally, LOL!! Can't say Ive never spliced USB wires before, that will be my next project.

After thinking about it, I think I'll stay with my original idea, getting a usb switch and sharing it between my HTPC and Xbox 360.

Cheers.
