Xbox Power 247 - Router Style!
« on: August 02, 2007, 03:43:00 PM »

Hi guys,   Ive done some searching, but could do with being pointed in the right direction.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Thinking of Installing Linux on to my Xbox, and keeping it running 24/7...
As a possible print server, download machine, music server and added shared-network storage  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)

Only thing is POWER!!!   What would be the best way to power up the Xbox?? Without using the Stock PSU  (due to heat, electricty usage, and a possible fire hazard.) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I was thinking of using a DC adapter, like the ones used for routers. Is there something like this out there or can something be made (cheaply).

Any help or pointers appreciated. Thankx in advace, Hypernetics  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Hi,

The xbox uses more power than most adapters can deliver. It needs at least 3 different voltages. Some people build a adapter pcb that makes it possible to use a pc atx power supply to power the xbox. (not the 1.6 version.) If your concern is heat and fire hazard, this could be a solution for you. It will not consume less because of that new supply. It has no buildin features to lower it's power consumption as it was never designed for that purpose. It was designed to play games which are supposed to use all the CPU and GPU power they can get.

regards.

Buy it for $18 + S&H from here: Click Me

Afterwards, buy a quality PSU and wire it according to the diagrams located here: Click Me
