I am looking for free video conversion software that will convert .avi files to .wmv format. I have found a bunch of trial software that either converts the first 30% of the file or leaves a watermark. Can you help me find a free converter program?

Glad it is working. smile.gif

If I would have know you had Vista, I would have linked to that version instead. Either way, good job.

So now that I have the conversion software working, I have an even bigger problem - My 30 day trial of DVDFab Platinum has expired and I have no means of copying more of my movies to the computer.

Does anyone know where I can get free DVD ripping software?

And not one of those trials that says - "we'll only convert 30% of your file or leave a watermark with our logo until you purchase the full version of our software"

The people who make your software also have a free version. Google should help you out.

I downloaded their free software. ripped a DVD. instead of a simple video file that I could play on my computer or zune, it gave me a folder with about 11 files

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1
VTS_01_2 - VTS_01_8

I either need a different DVD ripper or a way to convert this into 1 simple WMV file

What you have on your harddrive is a DVD Rip.

Now you just need to frameserve that to any encoder you like. I like DGMPGDec, you might need vfapi also. You can use Windows Media Encoder, and output the stream as a WMV. I have never used it with WME before but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink works well.

I don't know how to do that. Do you know of any software that will rip a DVD directly into a single video file that my computer can read?

DVD Decrypter will rip into an .iso file. Im not sure if you can find a convertor that will put in a file that the zune can read/

super is freeware - no trials. this looks promising
throwingks  - didn't you say there was a vista version of super?
