Vista And It's Wonderfull Default Questions
« on: September 09, 2007, 06:58:00 PM »

just bought a new lapper, and it came with vista (vista something... probably the lowest one).

I can't set VLC as my default media player. I've tried the "default programs" and file type associations, and VLC never comes up as a selectable program.

I've done the "browse for programs", and when I select vlc.exe it doesn't do anything.

I don't hate WMP but VLC plays everything so I would like vlc to play everything by default.

I can set firefox and thunderbird as default apps but not vlc. Anyone know why?

I never have a problem with defaulting VLC for my video/music files. I'm running Vista Ultimate.

I just right click on a video file > click on open with.. > browse > vlc.exe > make sure you check the box that defaults it > ok > done.

^ something like that.. I don't particularly recall. But it works for me.

I have no idea what the hell is going on. It should work.

Gon into Program Files/VLC or whatever and look for vlc.exe or something like that.

Ok, go to that window you print-screened. Click the black arrow on the right to expand a bigger list of programs. Try picking VLC from there, defaulting it by checking the box, then pressing Ok.

I've done both those suggestions and nothing.

vlc doesn't show up, in either "recommended" or "other programs". I can find it from the "browse" but it never pops up into that screen.

I haven't tried that "look for the appropriate program on the web" link, but I don't think that will do it.
