Quick Hdd Question.
« on: July 17, 2007, 10:52:00 AM »

Hey all, after managing to soft mod my xbox and use xbmc i'm thinking about upgrading my xbox hdd.

I was wondering if just a torx 20 screwdriver is needed to get enough access to replace the hdd, or if i need a torx 10 as well.

Also could anyone recommend a lockable hdd from HDDs in my price range;-)?

I've got about £40 to play with. Any help would be greatly appreciated as always, many thanks x

You will need both Torx bits.  The screws holding the HDD in its tray are a smaller size than the case screws.

Most newer HD's are lockable.  Just be sure to buy a name brand one.

So just to confirm..

#1 - I FTP my XBOX's EEPROM into the "linux\eeprom" directory of xboxhdm.

#2 - I FTP my XBOX's C:\ into the "linux\C" directory of xboxhdm.

#3 - I FTP my XBOX's E:\ into the "linux\E" directory of xboxhdm.

#4 - I Make the xboxhdm iso and burn it.

ON PC

#5 - I set the jumper on my new HDD to master and and plug it into the primary master IDE channel.

#6 - I set the jumper on my CD/DVD Rom Drive to slave and plug it into the primary slave IDE channel.

#7 - I boot up the xboxhdm disk.

#8 - I select the option to rebuild my new XBOX HDD from scratch formating each partition appropriately and
restoring each drive.

#9 - I select option 6 to generate the locking keys and use option 7 to back up the relevant keys so i don't mistype it. Keys acquired from EEPROM.

#10 - I then lock the new HDD with the code from the FLOPPY using lockhd command.

#11 - I can just plug in the drive an everything will be great?!

At the bottom of kingroach's tutorial it says "DONT FORGET TO LOCK YOUR HD BEFORE YOU SHUTDOWN XBOX", if i'm just installing a new hdd from scratch why would i need the xbox on or is this just for restoring a retail drive?

Thanks again x

I don't intend to ever use my old RETAIL XBOX hdd ever again, it's getting thrown away.

Am i right in thinking i don't need to connect my RETAIL XBOX HDD to my pc EVER?

xx

Revised::

#1 - I FTP my XBOX's EEPROM into the "linux\eeprom" directory of xboxhdm, and "backup" directory.

#6 - I set the jumper on my CD/DVD Rom Drive to master and plug it into the secondary master IDE channel.

Heres how I did mine ( and two others).

Softmod the original XBOX HD using Ndure 1.1 and the game of your choice.

During this process Ndure will prompt you to backup your EEProm - do that.

Once the the mod process is done, FTP the Krayzie Extras's folders to your Xbox E:\Apps directory.

Launch the Extras from  Apps and proceed into the game save, this will unlock your shadowc (you will have to enter a password to get to this point, and your front LED should turn RED when the shadowc is unlocked)

At this point copy your C and E drives to your computer, and build the XBOXHDM disc.

Connect the new HD as the only HD in your computer. Boot to the XBOXHDM disc.

Follow the prompts to build your new HD. Pretty self explanatory once your in there.

Lock the HD. You shouldn't need a floppy with the eeprom provided you copied your backuped EEProm to the XBOXHDM folder before you build the disc.

Install new HD into XBOX, ensure that it boots.  If so congrats!

Take your old Xbox HD, put it in a ESD bag and put it in a safe place, it will provide a backup incase your new HD decides to go kaput.

P.S I softmodded with ndures 1.1 installer with Mechassault installing Evox's dashboard

I'm on xbins and can't find "Krayzie's Extras" where abouts is it?

Thanks all for the massive help:)

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Managed to get my new HDD up and running, just 2 last questions.

1.)What's the quickest way to copy stuff to the xbox? FTP seems to be really slow, i get about 2-3 MB/s.

2.) I have the 137GB prob with this 250GB drive, i've installed nkpatcher67 with the softmod. Have tried to search for an article helping me but most of the fixes seem to be for XBOX's with with modchips. How do i rectify this on a softmodded XBOX?

You may as well FTP. Just let it FTP all the junk for about 3-5 hours. It took me 9 hours to transfer 250 GB's from one xbox to the other.
