Heat Sink/paste Question
« on: March 09, 2007, 06:10:00 PM »

I bought an Arctic Cooling Feezer 64 Pro and i was wondering if it's possible for a heat sink to come with paste already applied? Im asking b/c i was just looking at the bottom which rests on the cpu and its a grayish 'paste' that can slightly smear if pressed but dry to the touch. Is this the thermal paste? Is it fine for me to apply the actual real thermal paste that i bought seperate? Thank you all for helping me over the paste month or so.

Some heatsinks come with pre-applied thermal grease. It's usually crappy stuff so you're better off removing it, then applying your own.

Wipe off, then use alcohol to remove any remnants. I once used carb cleaner when I couldn't find the alcohol. smile.gif
Just make sure you use something that won't leave a residue behind.
Afterwards, don't touch the surface with your fingers or you'll get some oils on it.
