Psu In Regards To Pci Express
« on: March 02, 2007, 09:12:00 PM »

All I need to complete my build is to get a PSU and Video Card. The only thing is while looking at specs for the 500W psu it says "PCI-E Connectors: No" Does this mean that my PCI Express x16 VidCard will not be compliant with the psu? Thanks for any input.

To use the PCIe 16x video cards, you need the separate connectors from the power supply.  If the power supply doesn't have PCIe connectors, then it's an old model and you should avoid it unless you are planning to use it for an older system using an AGP video card.

Some PSUs have dual PCIe connectors for SLI or CF.

Although my PSU did not come with the nessesary 6 pin connector for a PCIe x16 video card, the video card itself came with a 4pin to 6pin molex adapter for specific situations like this. Check with the video card manufacturer to see if the video card box contents includes one of these. if not, you can always jimmy-rig one like i did before i bought my new video card. google for pinouts and start slicing and soldering. (i suppose only try the latter if you're confident with electronics and are willing to risk blowing up your pc.)
