Miminum requirements aren't that bad..  Most PC's from the past 3 years should qualify.

I guess the questions is what value it adds to your life..  It might be hard to Justify for some.  I like keeping on eye on technology, especially tech as significant as Windows.

http://www.microsoft...dy/capable.mspx
Minimum Requirements:
Vista
CPU - 800 MHz 32-bit
RAM - 512 MB
Video Card - SVGA Compatible
HDD - 20GB
CD-ROM

Vista Premium
- 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
- 1 GB of system memory.
- Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum), Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
- 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
- DVD-ROM Drive.
- Audio output capability.
- Internet access capability.

AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!

I would LOVE to see Vista run on hardware like that. My system is super fast and some things kinda chug along here and there.

Not to mention that it takes up over 1GB of RAM on a 2GB system. And that is with tweaking and turning off all the Media Center nonsense.

But that's MINIMUM requirements.  As in "will just about boot but run at an absolute crawl" requirements.

Fancy running Windows 2000 on a Pentium 133 with 64MB RAM, or XP on a Pentium 233 with 128MB RAM?  These should give you some idea of what to expect from Vista on an 800MHz CPU with 512MB RAM.

I will be installing mine tomorrow, thanks to the company's Technet sub. Installed a keyless demo at work today and was told by nvidia drivers that i didn't have vista installed, which sucked.
On a seperate note, why all the bitching about microsofts monopoly? They're a business, not a charity and as such the aim of the game is to destroy your competition and leave consumers no choice but to spend their hard earned on your product. It sucks for the other companies, but thats life.

Vista is a joke, at least for gaming. Maybe in a year games will work ok.

Haven't they said this about everything though? It's the best security, it's the best server, it's the best desktop, it's the best eye candy, it's the best media center, it's the best gaming platform....... yet they never said it's the most hardware and resource intensive and takes more to run less than it would on a same XP-based computer. I was pleased when I was told about the DX10 update, but the more and more I see MS' BS on Vista's hype, the less I get thrilled. I will not be a slave to a monopoly. I will choose my OS, I will choose my games. I have yet to see any gain from a DX10 game from a DX9C game, let alone a game on the X360. I hope more developers start multi-platform compiling for OSX and/or Linux. Can't you developers slightly be LIKE Blizzard?

Vista is a joke for games. I'd take an X360 before I upgrade to Vista just to play a freakin game. Oh, and if I did, I sure as heck won't be paying for that upgrade.

I'm sure you'll need the Vista Premium for gaming.  I doubt it'll work for the minimum requirements.  I think I'll stick with my xp mce for my desktop and 360 for gaming.  I definitely like playing games in high def from my couch better.

You forgot to mention, "it has the most technically complex bugs and gaping holes in the so called security that we will never possibly have them all fixed before we redesign it 'from the ground up' yet again"   blink.gif

The only way they essentially forced me into XP was that the sheer numbers of end users/consumers buying OEM XP machines caused most software developers to simply stop trying for Win95 compatibility... rolleyes.gif

I'm not sure if Vista is getting the PR that MS hoped for, Vista for Business came and went without to much NOTICE.  And in week Vista for Everyone comes out and I don't think I feel the SAME excitement as for WII yet! smile.gif

I dont understand how they can say that without having EAX supported on vista.
Also your nice X-FI card, is FEATURE-LESS...

Read it and weep it.

people are far to comfortable with xp (not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination)
so to jump streightto another os is a little bit to much to ask.
it wont get the take off m$ are expecting it will be more like a slow steady fizzle until new things are offerd that just arnt open to xp users and the OS has prooven itself to be atleast as secure and user friendly as xp then it wil burst into the market and only then.
i remmember seeing in a press release that developers had decided to move away from the less technical and easy to use format of xp and to go with a more indepth hands on setup of the new vista OS.
this may be there biggest problem getting people to shift over, ive used the beta versions as im sure many other poeple have and to be hounest some silly little tasks allthough being far from complicated are just a plain pain in the arse.
maybe its just adjustment to a new format but m$ really know how to make there products poles apart

ps: that marketing bollocks is incredible you would think it was a cure for cancer and world hunger they do work hard for there money lol!

I need to ask something now, all you Mac OS users, how do you compare OS X to previous Mac OS? Is it much the same only better, because I was introduced to Macs and Windows at roughly the same time and kept using both until the iMac (shortly before they all had DVD drives) and I was running 98SE and I have to say Mac OS up until then was unimpressive in my opinion. It had its good points but Windows was the better OS from a user standpoint. Now I run Windows XP and Debian dual boot and if I was to recommend one to anything but a gamer I would probably say to save your money and go with a Linux distro, I'm not saying OS X isn't great, it does get a lot of hype, but from experience with previous Mac OS, I wouldn't waste my money to get disappointed.

Finally as said before MS do not hold a gun to game developers, game developers release games for Windows only because they make the most money that way. It would be nice if the games would work on Macs and Linux too, but they have been made exclusively for Windows for a long time by most developers so just accept it will be this way with Vista too.

I used Vista's Beta out of curiosity for about 10 minutes before formatting my PC to make sure it was gone.

Everything was awfully cumbersome to do, deleting a folder took at least 3 confirmations from me to make sure it was alright to do. Essentially nothing was compatible. The look is awful, and all they really did was steal from Fedora, OS-X, and Mozilla. It was complete crap. I felt like I was browsing through their old Encarta 98 software just looking at the start menu.

It hogs far too many resources and runs too many processes to ever be worthwhile for gaming. No thank you, I'll stay with XP for as long as it is feasible.
