but I instead tapped the negative into the pin 39 under the mobo and ran the positive from the power board 12v acc connection
thats why... connect it to 5V

I did the HDD LED and LAN LED about a week ago. I connected the LED straight to the HDD that way it's not a pain in the but to gut the XBOX for future mods/repairs/fun.  biggrin.gif

HERE are some pics.

For the front view pic the HDD LED is on the right and LAN is left.

For the HDD Close-up, it is exactly the same as in the TUT... that's the same TUT I used. All works fine for me.

Please forgive the paint job. This XBox was an EBay Salvage tongue.gif

EDIT**

I think your problem is probably with you NEGATIVE line. There are certain lines on the PSU that aren't supposed to be used. EXAMPLE

Actually the resistor is variable so it can take either Voltage input
wrong
it would be true if pin 39 was just a open collector but it has a protection diode to +5
so it will clamp any voltage above that...

That's what I ment to say  tongue.gif

KilluminatiStyle - thanks for that info, I'll double check and possibly move it to share the same negative as the HDD to resolve this as it's not exactly draining the juice out of it.

Aww, I think you meant share the same 5v POSITIVE as the HDD. In the HDD LED mod PIN 39 is the ground and you're supposed to use the +5v from wither the molex connector that plugs into the HDD (red wire) or do as I did and just run it from the bottom of the HDD where the MOLEX CONNECTOR plugs in.

And yes I realize I messed up in my previous post, #5, in regards to calling your line going to the PSU a negative. I meant positive but for some reason my hands fingers didn't want to type that I guess.

Good Luck to ya sir.

you just don't get it, even with the above hint ^^^

when pin 39 clamps at 5 Vdc and the top of the resistor/led is conected to 12Vdc
then 12-5 = 7 volts across the resistor/led and it will be ON but not as bright
as when pin 39 is pulled to ground
ie: HDD activity and full 12Vdc across the resistor/led

CONNECT it to the +5 as the tut states....

and now while I've got LED fever I did the controllers as well.. 6LEDs per controller. I did one in 3mm LEDs and the other in 5mm LEDs.  smile.gif
