Boil the belt in boiling water for 3 minutes. Clean the pulleys then use very fine sandpaper to take the shine from the inside V of the pulleys. NOTE: Only do this if you can no way source a belt. It will make the drive work again. Do not oil the tray mechanism.

don't know which one it is(they're all the way upstairs) but one of my drives doesn't open unless you bang on the xbox as it's trying to open. I know that can't be good for the hard drive, but a old fashion smack works wonders for me(the few times I actually use my old drive)

I've seen alots of drives that just need a nudge left or right to kick into action..  Kinda like they get pulled closed, or pushed open unevenly on a slight angle, and get caught.somewhere..  Might eliminate the domestic xbox violence...

I have never found the drive belt to be the problem with any samsung drive, everyone just blames the belt. If you dissasemble the drive, and lube all the tracks and moving parts with grease it will fix it.

Hi,

Rubber belts don't loose their strength in one minute. The process is going slow. So, suddenly their comes a moment that it can't transfer enough force to open the tray. In such a case, a little bit of lubrication might help, but after a while, the problem will come back. I would suggest grease for the lubrication. Don't use grease that is to thick. Something like Vaseline might be a good solution. In some DVD readers, you can see that the manufacturer also uses it. Oil is more a lubrication product for fast moving parts where grease would be trown away from the rotating parts.
Don't use to much grease. A little bit should do the job.

The best change to find some replacement belts is in old broken cd rom stations. Most computer stores have to replace some once in a while. Cassette decks used to have them too, but those are harder to find these days.

regards.
