Which Type Of Video Card...
« on: June 21, 2006, 08:27:00 PM »

ok, im looking to get a new video card, right now our computer has integrated graphics, and it sucks.
i was pretty sure i needed to get a pci one, but once i was making sure our computer had pci, i found out it has pci slots and an agp slot.
the motherboard is an asus k8s-la, computer is an hp a810n
im going to be adding another 512 mb stick of ram (184 pin, i know)
so whihc type of card should i get? agp or pci?
if pci is ok, im looking at this one http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814103167 (i dont need anything special, just a little upgrade)

thanks, just making sure i get the right kind of card...

Yeah, almost every computer has PCI slots. They are usually what your LAN, Sound, Modem etc. are plugged into. The AGP slot is there so you can achieve a faster speed for video as PCI is typically used for more 'non demanding' products. PCI express, however, is a whole new story...

Also, I'd recommend not asking which video card is the best as there is a lot of differing opinions on that one...

PCI Express (not to be confused with regular PCI slots) are the way to go if you have a PCI Express slot, but if not, just go with AGP, it'll work great. I ran a Radeon 9800 Pro in my desktop and it ran all the latest games just fine, BF2, Doom 3, HL2, WoW, of course, ATI is most certainly NOT known for their drivers  rolleyes.gif

happy gaming at 800x600 res, 0xAA, and 10fps in most modern games. But youll enjoy being abe to watch tv on your computer......  blink.gif realy, re-think. Are you ever going to watch TV on your comp? Honestly, try for a 9800 pro or even a x1300 if you could. my $.02
