The reason Windows is NUMBER ONE is because its user friendly, something LINUX is FAR from. Anyone that just wants to get up and running with unrivaled hardware and software compatibility will use Windows. Anyone that has an unlimited source of free time on their hands to tweak an OS just to do the simplest of tasks will use Linux.
Hmmm. When I ran that compatibality test for vista it only recognized my IDE controller and my monitor. All the rest said that I would Have to get drivers for. So universal.
On my Fedora partition, I only installed the video drivers form nvidia. Everything else was there already. Much more compatible than windows.
But I can say that unless you already know, or are willing to sit down and learn how to use the command shell, this is going to be hard.

You really think thats true? Heres a list of Linux viruses
-->LINK, and I guarantee removing a virus in Linux aint gonna be as easy as Windows. The list may not be as long as Windows viruses, though Linux only has about 15% of the OS Market Share. If Linux ever became as popular as Windows the Virus threat would be just as great if not more.
OK a virus in windows = blue screen/ dead computer. Maby if your lucky you can recover with a virus-scan utuilty.
And those viruses infect the kernel and other modules. Only problem is kernel's are updates almost every month. So if you keep up to date, then no viruses.

I've used many Linux distros, and I still cant find what the hell you linnys claim to be as faster. In fact I feel Linux is slow as hell. Even if Linux was faster, whats the point. You could never use the latest hardware on that OS since its never supported.
My system is fully compatible with linux without any drivers to install (except the nvidia drivers)
Asus P5WD2-SLI Premium
GeForce7900GTX
Mercury TV Tuner
FantomDrive 1TB External Drive
My bluetooth Razr Phone
My Xbox 360 controller
My Sound Augidy 2
All without drivers.
And Linux doesn't have to run all of those anti-spyware/anti-hacker/anti-viruses programs. And not to mention all of the background services M$ requires you to run. I am running right now and I only have 7 porcesses running (including system processes). How many do you have???

Your limited to whatever WINE can port, which is moslty bugged so its pointless.
Wine does not 'port' windows software. Rather they create a windows framework and when an application doesn't work, it is because they still havn't implemented a certain procedure that takes hundreds of lines of code. It does take time. But the essentials are working.

Whoa, your a friggin Genius by saving $50.00.
Where did you get $50 from. Last time I checked windows XP Full installation was $100, Pro was $200. How much is vista gonna cost?? $300, $400?

Why must you Linux fanboys always try to covert a Windows users? Is there some sort of new Linux missionary we should know about? Hey, I tried Linux, and if it was better than Windows I would unbiasedly be in favor of spreading the word. Though I personally feel Linux sucks in my book.
I am anything but a linux fanboy. In fact the only computer I use on a daily basis that runs Linux is my home computer. My work used to run their servers on RedHat but recently switched to windows. Why I don;t know but they did. I also run a windows machine in my home, for my family. And one for me when some games refuse to play in wine.

Please explain how MS are evil capitalists.
Bill Gates has donated hundreds of millions worldwide to feed, shelter, educate, and provide medical care to millions of indigent people worldwide. When he dies his amassed fortune will be mostly donated.
What has the Linux community done to help people? The only thing Linux has done is leech off of what a free market was capable of creating.
They aren't evil, maby a better word is Monopoly. Yea thats it, Monopoly. They make this OS, then over-hype it. Then they buy out all of the software makers and say only to develope for Windows.
Thats not always the case but in some instances the major software makers were taken.
How does linux leach off of what a free market was capable of creating? They don't leech. They have thousands of hard-working software developers who are willing to contribute for FREE to other people.
I am not trying to force anyone to use linux. I am trying to let other know that there are alternatives and they have a GUI
. I was talking to one of my friends about a month ago and he didn't even know that Linux existed. He thought that only mac and Windows were there.
But I am glad to hear that at least you have tried Linux. It's always better to try new things. What distro did you try?
