Help Finding A 2.5" Hdd
« on: June 11, 2006, 09:01:00 AM »

i have some money to kill and i plan on buying a mini-ITX

here is my cart so far:

Black Morex Cubid 3688 Mini-ITX Case, for VIA Motherboards, Fits Slim 2.5" HDD, w/ PSU
$80.00
VIA EPIA 5000 Eden 533 Mhz Fanless Motherboard
$100.00
Kingston Low Profile 512MB PC133 DIMM
$110.00
Panasonic UJ845B Slotload DVD-RW
$130.00

my total so far is about $420.00

the prices i listed are higher than the actual prices so i know that i have enough. i plan on tossing a 2.5" HDD in it. i looked on newegg but the stuff is not 2.5" it is 3.5". does anyone know where i can get a 2.5" 250GB+ HDD? thanks in advance.

you were looking in the wrong section of newegg buddy wink.gif Theres a whole laptop hdd area, all 2.5" hdds. The largest 2.5" hdds that newegg carries is a 160gb one @ 225 bux blink.gif http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822148073
I dont know why you insist on getting a laptop hdd becuase they cost about 3-4x more than 3.5" hdds.

Im actually pretty sure they dont even make 250gb laptop hdds at all.

i saw the 3.5" HDDs in 400 to 500GB on Newegg (well i first saw them in maximum pc) but the case that i am using only holds 2.5" HDDs. ill mark down the 160GB one they have there but ill keep looking. thanks for the quick response smile.gif.

thats what I said ^^ And if you buy dual 160gb hdds, thats already 500 bux. Your better off buying a 80gb internal and a 320gb external IMO.

i searched around and i found out that the Mini-ITX only supports up to 136GB of internal memory so i guess that external is the way to go. here is a pic of the case IPB Image

here is my cart:

DESCRIPTION                                                                   PRICE

VIA EPIA 5000 Eden 533 Mhz Fanless Motherboard              $90.00

 Kingston Low Profile 512MB PC133 DIMM                            $106.20

 Panasonic UJ845B Slotload DVD-RW                                  $124.20

 Black Morex 3688 Mini-ITX Case                                       $106.20

 Western Digital Scorpio 40GB 2.5in 5400RPM HDD              $99.00

my total now comes to                                                      $617.58

looks like i will have to save up since im 15 and in N.Y. i cant get a good job 'til i'm 16. shipping is about $92.00 but i know a PC store that will order the parts for me. i know the owner there (from making countless trips to White Castle and stopping by to buy parts for my xbox) and he will probably order the parts there.

1.12. Will a 160GB drive work with my EPIA motherboard?

48 bit LBA is not supported on the first generation EPIA motherboards. The largest drive you will be able to attach is 136GB. Larger drives will be recognised as 136GB. EPIA M motherboards will support 48 bit LBA. One solution would be to use an IDE controller PCI card.

the PC in my room sucks (as in i cant boot up properly) and i just need it for the simple things. my gaming PC is for my better tasks. The PC i am building is more for running Linux and using as a simple media center and for simple more academic things. im probably gonna use it for CAD and other 3D design. im also going to use it for my old school games like the original CnC and Outpost (original and 2).
