Ehhh....i Got A Dead X3ir
« on: June 08, 2007, 11:13:00 PM »

Ok I carefully reviewed the instructions multiple times and I have installed it just how they had on the install guide.

My xbox will not turn on / off by any means by the offical xbox remote. I have tried another X3 chip that also works and still no luck. I noticed that none of the X3 boards light up at all when I turn it on. What the hell is this bullshit?

Look at my pictures here, evreything is installed just fine:

What do I do now? I think I'm screwed, Is it because I have a minebea PSU that the mod wont work? I highly doubt it...... And please I know that the Xerc's are great but I spent my money on a X3IR so deal with it. I also know that the offical remote works in XBMC with the DVD dongle. Also I thought that the solder part was only needed if you don't have a X3 modchip? Am I screwed into soldering? Whats the best way to join the two wires with a person with tremors attempting to solder?

Help please, thanks!

Was the X3 IR programmed correcltly? Also what version xbox is that, I couldn't quite tell from the pictures, looks newer though. If it's a v1.6 did you do the extra +5v for the X3? Is the problem with the X3 IR alone, or is it the whole modchip setup? Does the modhip work itself without the X3 IR?

Both my X3 CE's work just fine. I assumed that the X3 IR boards were pre programmed by default. Meaning I should be able to turn it on without programming it. Do I need to program it for it to work? I think it's a problem with the X3 IR chip itself. It does not even get power.

The xbox is a 1.0, you can tell by the daughter board, PSU and encoder.

I may have to send big connector to someone so they can extend the wire that I already clipped. I suck at soldering wires toegether. Would any one be so kind of offering this service. I just need to have 3 wires soldered to the large connector where I clipped the wires down assuming I would not need them. There still is wire on the connector so if you can solder wires together than that would be great if you could do this. It needs to reach the underside of the motherboard where the PSU is.

Any other suggestions?

Ok here is my situation:

IPB Image

I clipped the wires thinking that the X3IR was a complete solderless solution if you had the X3 or X3CE. Well I was wrong. I need someone to re-connect the wires to the connector and have it be very strong, prefered if you can even wrap the joint where the wires connect with heat shrink stuff. Then strip the wire ends a bit more where they are going to contact the PSU pins on the bottom of the motherboard. Finally I will need the ends that you just stripped to be tinned so I can have less of a hell soldering the thing on and resulting in a  better joint for me!

Will anyone do this for me? It's like 7 minutes of work if not less...... I will send the connector only to a repuatable person who has refs and has extreme soldering skills. If needed I can pay a dollar or two....

Or if anyone owns a X3IR connector that they are willing to give up and stip the ends a bit more and then tinn the end of the wire, I can mail you a check or cash whatever.

OR you guys can help me how to get this thing working without solder! I thought it was a complete solderless solution unsure.gif .

Help in any of the above forms would be very much appreciated!

If its that big of a deal, I can do it for you for free, just pay shipping. However, its not very hard to solder wires together. Try this:

- strip a bit (1/8" to 1/4") of insulation off each end.
- make a U shape with each one
- insert one U into the other U
- close each U
- put some flux on the newly-created joint, and apply solder to it
- cover it with tape

Do this for each of the wires. If its hard to follow, I can probably make/find pictures somewhere for you.

I dont have any wire stripping tools, last time I attempted to strip a wire this small I just cut it in half with scissors, it hardly has any wire to it so I personally don't want to mess it up.

Oh I also don't own any flux.

I think I will be better off paying less than a dollar for postage and can stick it in a envolope and mail it to you.

(edit: I just read where you live and it's in canada. I don't really want to mail it there. I would like to keep it in the US to keep postal costs down.)
