Was it one of the sights running CGIProxy?
There are a lot of them now a days, a lot of the new content filters will allow for blocking of these types of sights. It's best if you set up your own proxy from a junk machine at your house since it's unlikely that the school will filter your home's IP.

checkproxy.com  Then copy the proxy with the lowest MS speed, go up to tools on your browser, open internet options, click on connections tab at the top. Then click on LAN settings. Check the "use a proxy server for your lan" box, and enter that proxy you copied and paste it in that box. then in the port box next to it, place the port number (8080, 80, 3128,...) in that box then click ok, and ok again. you should be all set. Not all proxys work, so trial and error is a definite. checkproxy.com is the best site though. updated almost every hour.
