Unable To Lock My New Hard Drive
« on: February 15, 2013, 03:12:00 PM »

Hi everyone, yes it's another nooby! unsure.gif  funny how the recession can force people to look closer to home instead of trying to dig ever deeper into the unfortunuately not so bottomless pockets so as fork out for another games console or upgrade or whatever takes your fancy.
Anyway I spent 2 years learning linux and using a linux based distro only to find that it is very damn difficult for some bizarre reason to get the game exploits from my computers harddrive onto the unmodded xbox, dunno maybe it is my distro, anyway moving along swiftly, eventually found that I can now buy the game save cards for the xbox controller with the necessary game saves and SID 5.11 installer already on the game save card and what do you know a whole new world has now been opened up to me for a mere £6.99 plus P&P biggrin.gif , who would have thought that someone was kind enough to think of doing this for poor cretins such as myself who don't use windows or mainstream UBUNTU
Shame I don't have one of those old AMD computers that everyone keeps talking about sad.gif , which is what I apparently need to get my Xbox HDD upgraded using Xboxhdm, have spent the last week fruitlessly trying to get the HDD locked after the entire process prior to this runs perfectly well, how frustrating to be so near yet so far! you probably know by now that I have been trying this on about 3 different computers and guess what all Intel P3s or P4s, what a drag?!? I then read on some forum (cannot for the life of me remember which one so many) that if one does not have  an old AMD computer (which I know sounds lame, but i won't bore you with the reasons why) one can just boot up as usual (on an Intel based computer) with the Xboxhdm boot disc using any old HDD you happen to have lying about and then after having selected option 3 off the first main menu, simply unplug that HDD(the old drive) and plug in the preformatted drive(with C and E folders and Eeprom.bin) you wish to lock for using in your xbox and hey presto you are able to  finally lock it! Is this true or complete bollocks????!! or am I confused? Did the poster merely mean one could use this method for locking a retail xbox drive and not some new hdd separately purchased for upgrading ones's Xbox???? Someone, anyone please help I am at my wits end?? uhh.gif .
By the way for informational purposes, my Xbox is v1.4 and I have softmodded it with the splinter cell game exploit and installed the SID 5.11 Dash which replaces my original MSDash 5960
Video PAL
XBE region 04
Hope to hear from someone soon  wink.gif

i have an HP PAVILION a1410e  Desktop. with  Award BIOS on my MOBO. and the  XBOX is Softmodded with the Krayzie Ndure Splinter cell exploit.

The Hard drive is a  Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 "Perpendicular Recording" ST3250820A 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100.

The problem is...I can't finished creating my  hard drive because I'm unable to LOCK IT! and i  keep getting this Error "Drive on Primary Master is frozen.. cannot change security status of a frozen drive!.. try to disable automatic detection on the primary ide channel in your PC Bios and reboot"  but i cannot find that option on my BIOS Setup. i just need to lock my HD to complete the upgrade...any help? Tools?  unsure.gif

Thanks.

some drives just don't support ata security mode.   I'm not sure what software you're using to lock it, but config magic works well.

Hi,

so, your drive is lockable. The issue is probably your computer. If you go to your bios setup, right under the fields where you can adjust your date and time, you will usually have 4 fields where you can enter your connected harddisks. You should put all these 4 to non installed. Maybe your bios doesn't has the option to shut down the harddisk auto detection, as nowadays, computers without harddisk are rarely found. You could try to perform the action on another computer, if you still have something lying around.

When your computer boots, you usually see a screen which shows the detected harddisks. If auto detection is disabled, none should appear there. Your HP could have a slightly changed bios that doesn't show that page anymore.

If your friend has a modchip, there is no need for him (her) to lock the harddisk. A xbox can boot from a unlocked harddisk with a modchip.

So, it is really hard to give you the correct answers, but I would try with another computer if you can't disable the auto detection on yours.

regards.

and i have the Award BIOS Version 3.00

Unable To Lock My New Hard Drive

ok soo i tried to lock my HDD on a different PC and  i  did! I locked my hard drive using xboxhdm using lockhd -a and it was locked with the eeprom I was using.

this is what it popped up after it finished locking my HARD DRIVE

security enabled: yes
locked: no
security frozen: no
Security count expired: no

i didn't pay attention to that and so i tested the new HD on my xbox but it gave me an ERROR 13.  sad.gif  now what?

However, i can boot original games but not my backups.

i think im getting this error because my MS dashboard (on my Original HD) was gone long time ago when  i put an xbox game demos Disc inside and when i took the disc out...it was updating my dash but it failed so it corrupted my MS dash. the good thing is,  i have a copy of the original MS dash on my computer.

any ideas? should i re-install the softmod on my xbox? or should i copy the C: drive to my original xbox hard drive and make a new xbhdm linux iso?

you didn't use your orginal dash If I remember right you must put the ms dash 5960 or something like that in the  c folder inside of the linus folder ....  if you don't have that dash then you can get it from the slayer v2.6 disk.....

Key

good luck

Hi,

error 13 is indeed a problem with your dashboard. It looks like your softmod isn't activated or working. You could try to install the ndure trough xboxhdm. I think this should even work if you start with a blanc hard disk. The ndure installer has all the needed dashboard files in it's package. You will need to use the generic fonts, as you probably have no idea of the kernel version of your xbox.

At least you know your locking works, as otherwise, you would get a error 5 (disk not locked) or a error 6 (disk locked with the wrong password)

regards.

soo for now...i can  just UNLOCK the hard drive and format it again right?

cuz what i'm about to do tomorrow is...copy the C drive (my backup with the working MS Dash) to my Linux folder and the rest of the files (E drive and the eeprom folder)  and make a new ISO...and burn it... and then run xbhdm.. and lock my drive. Right?

Hi,

that is pretty much it.

You might run the ndure installer on your pc, and copy the necessairy over to your linux before you make the iso as well. Otherwise, you will end up with a unmodded xbox. But I think you already did that.

Make sure your dashboard is the 5960 version. If it isn't, you can use the one from the slayers rescue disk. I prefer Qbix to extract files from a xbox Iso. The rescue disk contains a full functional 5960 dashboard. If you are unsure which one you are having, you might use that one.

regards.

OMG now i'm getting Error 05? (hd not locked)

When I locked my drove in XBHDM I got  that "Drive Locked:  NO" thing too.  Don't worry about it.  Error 13 means a dashboard issue.

You realy need to follow the tuts on this to get the dash etc. inslalled correctly on the XBHDM disk before doing the softmod.
