FUCK THIS

i dl'd a live version of Knoppix, ran it, had a look around and exited.

now when i start up windows, i get an error saying that the file:
\windows\system32\config\system
is missing or corrupt.

WHAT THE FUCK DID KNOPPIX DO???????

i have a system state backup of my computer, and i guess that would be teh way to restore it. but because of this corrupt (its there) file, i cant load windows.

i tried using recovery console from the win xp install disc, but that does nothing.

what the hell happened (i would have though a live cd wouldnt touch files on the hdd, esp windows files), and what do i have to do to fix it?

When you shut down the Linux that was running, did you just close it or shut down the computer? Or did you use the console to halt the processes and shut down linux? If you just closed it, that may be why. Linux seems to have a habit of becoming corrupted when its just shut down (at least, it did with my server I ran for a while). So it could be that, as for why it touched your Windows directory, beats me, just offering a possible reason.

not that many of you give a shit, but heres whats happened.

i got it working, but it was insanley slow, wouldnt run most apps.

reinstalled windows, tried to restore a system backup i had, didnt work

im giving up. im going to install windows over the top again, and ill just delete all teh files that are now useless. i would rather format it and start with a clean slate, but i have more stuff on the hdd  that i need then i have space on otehr things (laptop and xbox) o put it on.

and a word of warning,  the repair function on the xp install disk doesnt work. ive tried it many times on many computers, and IT WILL NOT WORK. wast of time really.

oh well, shit happens. guess im not going to run linux again
