64-bit Windows
« on: August 06, 2005, 06:17:00 PM »

Ok my dad and I are building me a gaming computer as a summer project. We are getting the best things out there. yesterday we ordered an ASUS A8N-SLI Delux mobo, a brand-spanking-new AMD Athlon 64 FX-57, and two XFX GeForce 7800 GTX graphics cards (arn't I lucky). We ofcorse got a water cooling kit for the CPU (don't remember which one but it got good reviews).

Any ways my question is, since the FX-57 is a 64 bit processor, do I HAVE to run Windows XP 64 whatever? I would rather run regular old windows XP Pro since I heard that 32 bit drivers wont work with Windows 64 whatever. Any comments would help thanks!

I wouldn't mind using Linux, I'm planning on switching to it on one of my computers eventually. I just don't like having to deel with new things like that. I have a question about Linux, if I do switch would I still be able to play my computer games on it (Half Life 2, Halo, and Battlefield 2 are the ones I play the most). And also how does it varry from windows (is it very very different or jsut better).

I suggest using 32 bit now, and upgrading to 64 bit when Vista comes around next year.

why 32 bit now if he gets 64 bit he will get good gaming performance and when vista rolls around he has a processor that supports it very well.

Bottom Line: DFI For Gamers

"In the end, the SLI platform from NVIDIA represents the optimum when it comes to 3D games, because the option of working with two graphics cards is enticing, to say the least. It is with exactly the gaming clientele that DFI can make its mark, because its board includes the equipment that the aspiring gamer needs, without making any compromises in terms of available features. Most importantly, the LANParty NF4 SLI-DR proves to be a master at overclocking, thanks to its high-quality components. "
