The problem I'm running into is your video card.  I can get you a mobo that supports s939 for $75.  But the cheapest one with a PCI-E slot is $269.  Would it kill you to use an AGP video card?

those are the two cheaper mobos i listed, both are 939, 7.1 channel audio (he said something about that) and have one pci x16 slot.... one is $129 and one is $149..... both look good to me, but for the record I've only built 7 pcs (all within a year, mostly for friends) and enderandrew seems to know a lot more than me and have built more than me. (if i seem sarcastic here, im not being sarcastic)

i have had the same problem with newegg they just dont show everything they have

okay fine then guys you show me a disk drive that will run anything and everything i put in it at under $40

well im gonna have the pci's like this (and i did not say i need 7 of them the board you showed me had 5 that would be great)

56k modem
network port
win tv pci
and a few other things i cant remember right now mainly audio and video stuff for input and output like rca style conections and stuff

but like i said agp is fine i dont care as long as it works

has anyone used that mobo before i mean how good is it

oh and if i can get a mobo for that cheap i could probably go to like 325-350 on the cpu but its probably going to be more like 300-325

you don't need a pci slot for network, they all had 10/100/1000 ports on the mobo....

OK, we need to get some things straight with AMD's 64bit line of processors.  The difference between 754 and 939 is not the die size, or just the number of pins they use.  They are not the exact same core, and believe it or not, the speed ratings do differ.

Socket 754 is essientally the same core as the 939, except, that it only has a single channel memory controller.  That is basically the only difference, but like anything, when something is removed or changed..there are going to be variances.  It started on a 0.13micron manufacturing process, but it is now on a newcastle core that is 90nm.  The production of processors will inevitably end, but only after the release of Sempron processors on the 754 line.  These are basically Athlon XP processors changed to work on the 754 platform, and of course having their own single channel memory controller. They are NOT 64bit.

Socket 939 on the other hand is the base core just with a dual channel memory controller.  It too has gone from 0.13micron to 90nm.  The 939 line will be AMD's major platform and will recieve almost all updates including dual core processors.

Here is a link to more detailed information about them and also some benchmarks showing the speed difference between 754 processors and 939.

Also, the 940 platform is for opterons, and they will probably be more stable, since they are a server platform, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend them for home use, since they still require registered ram.  Also, the cores are different there as well.

If you want to be able to upgrade, and you want that many slots, I would go with the Gigabyte nForce 4 board.

Gigabyte

Has 3 PCI, 2 PCI-X 1x, and 1 PCI-X 16x ports.  Plus 7.1 channel audio, gigabit ethernet, 4 SATA2 ports, and its on the 939 platform.

Here are your options.... You can either go with a pci -express 6600 gt (better, cheaper) and the gigabyte mobo ender and I suggested. Which is more for the mobo, but evens out with the video card price...

or get an agp one and the MSI one (FIR, only a little bit more, but lots better)

both are the sme price pretty much. but pci-express is more upgradeable

what makes that gigabyte so much better than the MSI K8T NEO2-FIR

and why cant i use a pci g-card on the MSI K8T NEO2-FIR

and should i worry about the things i have heard about the 6600 not being to good and that i should go with the 6800
