Anyone else having fun just blasting the birds that fly around out of the sky with the shotgun?  They fall out of the sky like real ones do.  Every little detail is covered.

If that's the most interesting thing there is to do in HL2, I'm gonna head to the Wal-Mart and get myself a shotgun.  Helluva lot cheaper than upgrading my computer and buying the damn game.   laugh.gif

When you buy a nice computer, it does far more than run games.  It also looks up porn quickly.

Even my P3 750MHz laptop has no trouble whatsoever playing DVDs, or any porn movie I've ever downloaded.  Hell, most are low res, low FPS webcam captures with bad pop music backgrounds.   rolleyes.gif

Video playback problems were the bane of socket 7 and low end PII/early Celeron processors.

That depends more on your Internet connection and choice of browser than the difference between a machine that is fast enough to play HL2 and one that isn't.  Of course, marketing hype is a powerful thing.  I know someone on dialup who bought a new computer to speed up their web browsing and they were really pissed when it wasn't any faster.

Yes that is true. But a pc has a lot more uses than an xbox. By the time you upgrade an xbox to do everything you want it to it could be about the same price as a computer and it still can't play the highest graphics games.

Some people do put too much money into their Xboxes, IMHO.  Multi-drive switched setups, disco lights, expensive ass mod chips, etc.  I modded my 1.0 Xbox with a split TSOP flash.  The only thing I had to buy was a SPDT switch from RadioShack.  I got the 80GB hard drive that's in it for $50 from Best Buy earlier in the year.  Xbox mods can be done on the cheap, PC upgrades...  No way.

Consoles will always be cheaper, PCs will always be where the cutting-edge gaming is.  It's a tradeoff.  It all depends on how much you're a hardcore gamer and how much money you feel like blowing on what basically amounts to entertainment.

If you can put a machine together for $250 that can run HL2 decently (as in you won't get 0wned for any other reason than net lag or poor playing skills, not your rig slackin'), I'll eat my Xbox.   wink.gif

The first post is pretty interesting.  Recommended, a 2.4GHz CPU.  That's a wee bit more than your $250 P4 1.5GHz.

Hell, I could drop a faster Athlon XP in the rig I got now and buy a new video card and I'd easily break the $250 barrier.  There's no other way to look at it, if you don't already have the computing muscle, HL2 is a damn expensive game.   tongue.gif

You hate to compare two awesome games Halo2 and HL2 because they both are totally different.   If I was to choose right now I'd go with HL2.  This is the most incredible game so far I've seen.  The graphics are incredible and I'm runnig a Nvidia FX 5200 with a gig of ram.
