And I'm only getting it because it is the only REAL alternate, not like I can afford to network 3 PC's with a wireless Linksys one.

BTW, I took the caps out, and examined them.  If you have one marked "Gloria" 1500uF 6.3V...be afraid, be very afraid.

BTW I did buy that D-Link, it's good so far, but I've heard some negatives about them too.  At least it *appears* to be well designed.

I'm not a big fan of SMC either.  If I'd known then what I know now, I'd have gone with a different brand.

I've had one for nearly three years.  I hate the GUI, and getting connections back up after they've been lost is a pain in the ass, but once it's running, it's running.

Sorry about your caps... As for the others, have you tried upgrading the firmware?  I did and it's helped a lot.

I beleive the wireless ones may be ok.
mine was wired, and yes it was the latest firmware, v1.232 ...

It isn't so much of SMC's fault...but mostly for these reasons:

1. WHERE an electronic was built, eg. Singapore, Mexico or Indonesia, usually not a good sign.
and
2. cheap faulty parts were used.

But I do not like the fact it is poorly designed, there is no fan.

THanks,

I have had the same problem.

SMC replaced my router once already.

I need a reason to get a 802.11G router.

The reason I kept this one this long is because of the built in wireless print server along with the 3 extra har wired ports.

I am going to take it apart and see about changing the caps.
