Evtool And Bios
« on: April 23, 2007, 07:44:00 AM »

I heard that I can remove the flubber animation with the app EVTool.  The readme says that it only works on Evox M8 XBOX BIOS/Kernel Files.

On my Xbox (drive C) in the bios directory it doesnt have M8.  There are these 2 files:  4979.06_256K_BLUE.bin, and EvoxM7.06_BLUE.bin.

In the system info on XBMC is says 'unknown' for bios detected.  So.....Am I just running an old version of the EvoX Bios??  The EvoX logo come up on the screen when it boots.....Also, i have no idea what modchip i am running.  I didnt install it, it was there when i bought it.  I have taken the xbox apart to try and find out what it is....but no luck.  Its a small chip soldered on the board....no writing at all.

So, can i modify the bios?? - Download the EVOX M8 bios and modify it??  Or maybe my modchip cant handle it??  Im not sure what I can/can't do here.....

Thanks

I would not attempt anything till you know what kind of mod chp it is.
Some mod chips are mounted upside down on the pogo pins.

Get yerself a good camera and take a nice clear shot of the modchip and post a link to it here..Also if its sitting on a pin header..You should be able to gently slide the chip off (as long as the D0 and any other cables are long enough).
You might find the brand/label on the other side.

Mod chips use different size bios's ranging from 256k to 1 meg...Flashing the wrong size is just asking for a world of trouble.

OK, took it apart again and took some picture of the mod-chip.  You were right, it pulled off.  But unfortunately it doesnt have any name on it anywhere.

Hopefully someone knows what this mod-chip is.  I am bought it in S. Korea if that helps anyone....

Here are the photos....

It is a cheapmod type chip.  Like this one http://warmcat.com/milksop/cheapmod.html

What I would do is read the bios off the chip onto your xbox, transfer it to your PC and load it up in EVtool or XBtool and see what it is.

I'm never installed a cheapmod but you can probably just flash a (or your modified) EvoXm8 bios onto it - have a read around to confirm.

Oh also, Xbtool  I believe is the bios editor which works on previous versions of the evoX bios.

So, to read the bios off the chip I  can just run a 'backup' command on Slayers to which copies the stuff to C:/backup??

Then read the file in there using one of the tools??  Sounds easy enough....will try it.

OK, well.....I opened the bios.bin in EVTool.  But I am not really any better off than before.  EVTool didnt tell me anything.  It said 'Unknown Kernel' and gave a MD5: 0xcf1a2b376960ad022ddb70ea44146726.  I wouldnt let me modify anything.

I searched for that MD5 SUM on google, but nothing came up except for a Korean website that had it matched to:   ROM = "Evox M8.16.ALL",0xcf1a2b376960ad022ddb70ea44146726.   But,  If this was the case i'm sure EVTool would have told me that.

I did buy the XBoX in Korea....so maybe its some no-name bios??  The bios.bin file that comes off the xbox c:/backup is 1.0MB in size if that means anything.

Maybe I am just out of luck since the mod-chip is a no-namer!?!??!

Any thoughts???
