FFS people, grow up...

They are both good cards, but from every review that I personally read on the subject the 6800GT offered better value for money.. (and I read quite a few reviews, both online & in magazines)

So I purchased an XFX 6800GT and am completely happy with it. to the point that if someone offered me a swap for an x800 + cash , I would tell them to take a walk  laugh.gif

I initally benchmarked an Aquamark 03 of 62,948 with both my card & pc (AMD64 3200+) running at stock speeds - I've had over 64,000 when I tried the base ultra overclock settings 400/1.1 - using 61.21 drivers & DX9.0b

upgrading to 61.77 & DX9.0c lowered my score to 61,456, but hey it's still 18,000 over my old 9800pro

all my games run great @ 1280x1024 with max details, max AA & max AF.

I'm even running FarCry with SM3.0 and it's stunning  cool.gif . The only problem is that you spend far to much time looking at the scenery and die quite alot  jester.gif

From reviews that I have seen the x800pro ATI cards are similar in speed (within a few fps) as the 6800's (sometimes better when max AA & AF are applied).

so stop all this mine better than yours rubbish, and buy the card that you think is the best for you system.

Like many gamers, I'm building a new computer for the upcoming batch of games...

AMD Athlon XP 3500 (939 Pin)
NVIDIA 6800 GT
512 MB DDR 3200 (I'll upgrade to more later if it really effects games)
WD 200 gig Special Edition

Even though the NVIDIA cards rule in Doom 3, I'll probably end up waiting until HL2 benchmarks come out before finally putting together the system... and maybe the AMD 939 pin processors will keep coming down in price by then.

you should save some money and just get the 754 (or whatever) Athlon 64 3400, as in a test against a FX-53 and a high end intel, on half the tests the 3400 and FX-53 were completely tied in a deadlock (like 1 or 2 points away) and they blew the intel out of the park

just saying, it would save 100 bucks

Doesn't the 754 use the more expensive RAM though?

nope, you have it backwards

the 939 (at least with the FX's) needs the buffered, ECC RAM

thats why the 3400 is the better deal

wink.gif  Just curious if I should even bother here's my specs :

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (I know it's old )
GeForce 4 Ti4600 (The Huge one)
1 GIG PC 2100 DDR
MSI Ultra KT400  Mobo
DVD Burner, etc, etc.

The game should run fine for you under 800x600 resolution and at low quality.

754 - Athlon64 - Single Channel - DDR400 - Unbuffered
940 - Athlon64 FX & Opteron - DDR333/400 - ECC
939 - Athlon64 & Athlon64 FX - Dual Channel - DDR400 - Unbuffered

I say go for the 939 because it is more future proof. 754 will be the value sector and will over-ridden with the new AMD Semprons.

All I have to say is my 9800 Pro is running Doom3 PERFECTLY.

I don't need to upgrade just yet...

When the 512Mb cards are released in 4-5 months maybe I'll upgrade.

Exactly wink.gif
