i have a rosewill combo drive, i downloaded the latest firmware for it, but my retail dvd version of far cry will still not read. i have tried everything - well, everything except the thing that will fix it. i have changed channels/jumpers on the drive itself, flashed the firmware, checked it in other dvd drives to make sure it works there (it did), i have played movie dvd's in it, and everything works great except this. there is a scratch in the dvd, but it reads just fine on other dvd players. i cant figure out what is wrong, any ideas?
symptoms:
i put it in the drive, and it spins, spins, spins and spins, and the cdready led blinks repeatedly. occasionally on my computer in explorer, the icon for my drive will change from being labeled "DVD/CD Drive" to "CD Drive," but there are still the dvd options if i open up its properties.
ummm.....everything locks up when it tries to read it, like once i was on msn, and i tried to rightclick on it, my desktop froze and the start menu/icons all disappeared leaving only the background...
a lot of times things will freeze up and stop responding until i eject the disc.
