Computer Budget $2500

So, regarding the RAM choice.  Would the
Kingston KVR400X64C3AK2/2G 2GB Kit DDR400 PC3200 Memory Retail

URL: http://www.zipzoomfl...ctCode=80098-50

be sufficient?  Would this utilize the full capabilites of my motherboard?  I decided to take the advice of the last poster and scratch the CD-Burner.  Thanks for the advice guys.  Any more thoughts before I actually bust out the credit card and begin purchasing would be great.

Thanks

I agree, the hardware you chose is so powerful, but with such little memory, you are kinda limiting its fast capabilities. Mine is 512 ddr, is half the PC you are getting, and I wish I had more. Scratch the cd burner, the dvd-burner does cd's. Save the money for memory.

I'd recommend the CD burner.  A DVD burner can burn CDs, but a dedicated CD burner will be a hell of a lot faster, and they're pretty cheap as well.

I got a 52x burner on ZipZoomFly for $32 USD. I think it's worth it.  There are other advantages to two drives as well.

That would be great, if it is in your budget. +

As for the above. Yes, an extra cd-burner would be nice, but 40x burner vs a 52x burner isn't that much of a difference. 2 drives are nice, but you can simply get standard dvd-rom for about the price of a cd-burner. This enables dvd-dvd and cd-cd on-the-fly burning.

I actually have a 48X cd burner/ dvd reader in my current computer.  I think I will just transfer it over to my new system and the dual drive issue will be resolved.  I hope with spending this much money on hardware, that cd-cd or dvd-dvd on-the-fly burning will work flawlessly without any buffer underrun errors.

on a high end card like that, it will help a little more

plus the extra gig ensures no bottlenecks anywhere, as he has raptor drives, a fast cpu, a fast mobo, and the 2 gigs will make sure it all runs smoothly

FPS is not specific to the amount of memory you have installed (after you have more than 256mb in your system)

It is however specific to the Mobo, Processor, Graphics Card & memory you have installed (make a duff choice in one of these and your FPS will suffer)

2gb is irrelievant unless you are doing a lot of high end CAD or design work.

1Gb of matched PC3200 CAS 2 or 2.5 will suit your needs perfectly

yea, i guess what dagoth said is correct, i was just thinking bottlenecks in the speed would be the source of not enough RAM, but only if ur going to be doing CAD (again, what dagoth said)

I agree with your choise in the X800, good call on not going with the 6800 because the Pixel Shader 2.0 is unsupported to this date!(with latest det drivers) The makers of Far Cry were showing off PS3.0 at the launch of the X800. nVidia had been concentrating more on the PS3.0 than 2.0, for what reason isnt a clue to me.

Okay gentlemen,
2 gigs of ram will not be good in a gaming system. There are a few reasons for this. One take a look at the picture of the ram, no heat-sinks. Cas Latency of 3! That will not help in games. Plus in addition, the extra ram will not act as a releaver of a bottleneck, it will become one because of the extremely high cas latency.

I would reccomend to get a DVD Burner, they are great for burning movies and backups of your documents. I mostly use mine for documents. I use the one in my dad's pc more for movies. Sadly enough, his computer is much better than mine  sad.gif

That's why you don't get crappy CAS 3 ram. Whoever recommended that should be shot.

Also I wouldn't buy a computer just yet. Wait a month until the newest cards have all funneled into the retail outlets (6800 GT, X800 XT platinum, X800 pro, etc.) Once that happens then it's a good time to build a system. Plus by then all of the LGA775 Intel chipset boards will be widely available and at a decent price instead of like now.

Wait about a month.  wink.gif
