A Few More Custom Pc Questions, Mainly About
« on: June 29, 2004, 01:58:00 PM »

ok, first off, i have a Creative Labs Audiology LS (the 5.1 surrond sound $50 one)

and right now im using a Yamaha Amp to power two Paradigm speakers, now these speakers are meant for home theater so u need an amp in order to hook them up and power them.
i then have the amp plugged into the Line out hole on my creative labs audio card via a audio (RCA) to phono (the plug on any type of computer speakers or headphones) splitter.
i am also running an sub woofer (it draws its own power) off of the amp and it hooks up via a subwoofer cable (the one plug, RCA conenctor type looking thing)

so, my question is this,

1) what does each hole do on the sound card (and list them by the color pleases)?

2) is there any way to hook my sub directly up to one of the holes on the sound card (as i know the sound card supports a subwoofer)  im only asking because the way its hooked up now (through the amp) the Creative Labs sound panel doesnt detect a sub, so i cant play with the settings, and that makes it so the sub only kicks in every now and then (when my regular speakers cant handle the bass)???
so is there anyway/plug to hook it directly to the card??

3) is there any better way to hook the amp and 2 speakers up to the card, or is the line out the only way?

ok, and a off the ntoe question

if im trying to save money, and ill be using a fan controller (so i dotn need all this self controlling, thermal sensor crap) whats the best bet for a cpu cooler....

the volcano 7, volcano 9, volcano 11+ or volcano 12 (i want one of these as there the best quality, yet cheapest socket A coolers i can find)???

thanks

from memory..

Green is the standard L/R

Orange is the surround L/R

Black is the Centre/Sub

you can connect directly - your user guide will show you how do do this(using 3.5mm jacks to female RCA). if you don't have one you can D/L one from creatives site

Line out is the best option when connecting to an amp

i was thinking the volcano 11+, but is there any draw backs to it, or is the volcano 12 actually better becuase it only has 3 blades (they say that reduces turbulence, but i dont know)??

how the fuck would that stay on??????

well, the volcano 11+ and 12 both have a low dba of 21 (which is pretty good) and a high of 48 (which sucks) but with my fan controller id have it at what i want

all i wanna know is, will the volcano 11+ preform as good as the 12, if they both have the same CFM's? or does the 12's design utilize itself more?

ok i was exaggerating about the skyscraper part, its 96x82x120mm- but thats huuuuge

anyways, back ot-
heres the thermal curve for the 11+:
user posted image
and heres the same thing for the 12:
user posted image

clearly showing that if your cpu were at 15'C above ambient, then the 12 would be shedding a hell of a lot more heat (45w (11+) vs 70w(12))

you have to assume a few things tho:
1: the graphs are not bullshit and made by the PR people
2: the trend continues n a straight line beyond the limits of the graph (you're gonna be operating up about 30'C above ambient)
3: although i'm tired i've managed to think about this logically blink.gif

edit: i'd still go coolermaster or zalman over anything else tho ph34r.gif

then the twelve it is

unless i can find a good zalman or coolermaster for socket a

can you reccomend any under 35 bucks?

so, what would someone reccomend for a Socket A cooler, for a 2.2Ghz AMD Athlon XP (barton core)???

it needs to be under at least 40, hopefully a lot less though
