Bah, Need Some Help Again With My Custom Pc
« on: June 12, 2004, 07:37:00 AM »

ok, so i have everything set in stone now (as in what im getting) except the hdd's.

first off, im getting this mobo ASUS "A7N8X-E Deluxe" nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU and it supports RAID

and then i was going to get these White Label EIDE 80GB 7200RPM ATA/133 8MB Buffer Hard Drive (GS_WL80GB_7200_8M) hard drives

my first question is, will these hard drives work with RAID??

my second question is, do RAID arrays use a different hook up and cable (does it still use the ide cable, or what)??

basically, im new to the RAID array, and people told me its alot better then just one hard drive, so i guess i wanted to try it out.

your better off buying a couple of sata drives to go in it, there faster & cost pretty much the same as ide now.

yes any brand will work.

The bios will have a configuration tool to set it up.

If your gonna be installing windows on to it you may have to put the raid driver on a floppy then insert it at the start of Windows setup, but my experience is with a PCI raid card not sure if on board RAID still requires the driver, I would imagine it would but I can't confirm this.

Take a look here for a little more info.

You idiot, your board only has serial ata ports for RAID, you selected two shitty generic brand ata/133 drives.

Enjoy incompatability.
