Nope 2 diffrent motherboard socket types(and design architecture changes), Pentium 4 uses Socket 478 and Pentium 3 uses Socket 370.

well thats tough to do if you dont want a new mobo...hard to find a faster chip that fits the p2 socket (if even possible now), and theres not much you can do with your existing mobo and extra RAM...

i say just put together a new budget computer. much more worthwhile than trying to upgrade your old one.

if you look around, you can find new motherboards that take PC133 as well as DDR RAM.

you will need to buy a new processor though (best bet for budget would probably be an Athlon XP)

take into consideration though that a new mobo & CPU will be a bout a 1/3 of the price of a budget PC if you shop around

Pentium 4 = Socket 478
Pentium 3 = Socket 370

So no, definitely not.  There's no risk in trying, though, because the processor won't align correction, and can't be placed in the connector.

I'm not looking for a bang, I dont expect to play Halo or Unreal 2 or anything. I just want it to be significantly better than what i have now. I basically want the power to play for example Diablo II and War Craft III
The Pentium II motherboard and proccesor, I have has:
350 mhz Pentium II Prccesor
1x AGP port
4x PCI slots
2x old things, well thier these log black ones i dunno exactly what they are!
3 memory slots
It has 2 1.1 usb ports
1 printer port
2 serial ports
mouse keyboard ports.
no on board audio

by the way I found the motherboard with the two different kinds of memory, thanks. The motherboard I found has a front side bus of 266, but it can support both types of memory. So I can only get a 2400+ or lower with out my performance being shot. so is 2400+ good?

decent gaming is relitive...
If your talking about simple 2d gaming then the P2 may work for you. If your thinking of any 3d pc game after 1997 you will most likely have problems.

This is only a work station comp. I have another computer i mainly use. SO i'm not trying to hype it up alot.

How much do you think i could sell just the mother board and proccesor with a 32 mb memory stick.

The thing is gameing on pc, for computers that normaly means higher end hardware( on avarage, the newer the game the better hardware required. Also check your case and power supply to see if it can support your choice of motherboard/processer).

As to that MB, proc, and ram that depends if you could find a buyer I would say between 5 to 20 dollars.
