Hack Philips Dvp642 To Play More Fortmats?

Want to buy a philips DVP642 DVD players, which could play divx/xvid/avi/asf/mpeg.
But many of tv shows I downloaded are in realplayer's rm/rmvb format. I know XBMC can do this too, but I want something for my parents-in-law, something really easy for them to use.
So, is it possible to hack such kind of dvd players to make it play more formats?
