Building A Pc

Well you should look into what cpu chip type you want to have in your system, and that also will reflect how much you can upgrade since both AMD and intel are moving to the 64 bit. Also there going to be releasing new video cards from NVidia and ATI soon (last I heard).
Sorry but at this point I see it mostly as a matter of preferance and price, so I can't offer any solid recomdations on hardware except buy a good brand motherboard(Gigabyte, Asus, Shuttle) and trustworthy ram. Normaly I'd check places like hardocp.com and tomshardware.com to see if they have a review of hardware before buying it.

As to places to buy, I use whatever is cheapist from pricewatch.com and has a good rating on resellerratings.com

Well there are a ton of resources on how to build a pc.
Building Your Own PC - tomshardware.com
Build Your Own PC - techtv.com
Build Your PC System -About.com
There are many many many more sights on the web for building PCs, google search for "Build your own pc" and you'll get lots of responces.

It really depends which kind of a setup you want.  Do you want AMD or Intel (not trying to start a debate here)?  I personally like Abit for motherboards due to compatibility with upgrades.  Most will recommend a Radeon 9600 or better for a video card (need a good card for gaming), a bare minimum of 512MB of DDR RAM (would be better to have 1GB or more).  Depending on how much you D/L would help us out with what size of an HD you should get.  I personally like Western Digital for HDs (while no company has a perfect record, they seem to be a little more reliable than the other makes).
