I'm trying to install Linspire right now.  Its being a little whore locking up all the time.  After reading this article I decided I needed to start trying Linux based operating systems cuz if M$ starts charging per month, I'm done with them.

What versions of Linux are you all running?  I've been downloading and installing the more recent versions of Red Hat and have been noticing HUGE performance issues with each subsequent release.  7.1 ran well but every version since then has, to me, seemed incredibly resource hungry.  I put them on a decent machine (500mhz, 512mb) just for test purposes and stuff was running very, very slow.

As for Longhorn I'm glad that WinFS hasn't been scrapped.  That is the most fresh and innovative thing MS has done in a long while.  I'm really looking forward to seeing how it is implemented.

I haven't ran any major distro's of linux in sometime.  I have some older pc's that generally are trash but i've been toying around with running http://trinux.sourceforge.net/ this on them.  It's pretty cool.  Anyone else run this before?

I've also looked at this one and this one.

I just love the fact they can run on trash computers and worst case scenario, something goes wrong, I put in a new floppy and wham, system back up.

biggrin.gif   Now, that`s what i call speed.
This was meant for future consumers (multimedia for homecomputers) and not for nettworkOS at work!!
There`s a link here but is written in norwegian.

Linux has definately gotten more user friendly. Installing Mandrake 10 or the new Fedora core is no more of a chore then installing XP. (Well I suppose you need to swap CDs.....) But they are definately very user friendly systems and KDE and Gnome certainly offer a lot in the lines of ease of use.

My Desktop is running Sure 9.1 Pro.
My server (which no longer serves anything) is Mandrake 10 to play with it.
My laptop is running Slackware current. (beta after 9.1)

Chef Elf, my laptops specs are less then yours and it runs fast enough to be my prime machine. Some apps open kind of slow, but it is an older machine. It's certainly more quick then windows XP is on this.

Let's not beat around the bush, people.  Everyone knows we're all waiting with bated breath for OS/3 WARP.

If BeOS ever had any decent driver support it would have been nice. It was a fun OS for a weekend, but lost it's practicality pretty quick.

It's not free to DL. You need to be a member of the MSDN to get it.
