basicly, you increase the longevity of the mobo you want pci express and the next processor genration (presscott from intel or a64 from amd) and to increase longevity for case, mobo, and psu, you want the next form factor, btx.

oh yes, and dont skimp on the case, get one with swinging 3.5" drive trays and psu mounting brackets and a mobo tray.... and space for 1 side fan, and at least 1 rear and one front

yea, the case i found a sweet one, has front back and side fans, and all the goodies for 60 bucks

anyways, how much will the btx cost? under 150?
and will t he price of AMD Athlon 64s come down this summer also? (maybe by like 20 bucks or so)

thanks for all the help

a little tacky, not bad though... what ever floats your boat but DO NOT BUY THE 450W PSU FOR 20 BUCKS like it says on the link... if you do your computer will be useless in as little as a year.

Ive done some more research and it seems the kt8 is about on a par with the nforce3. The nforce was slightly better in games and the kt8 was slightly better in pretty much everything else. look on toms hardware guide for info on different components.
I would still go for 1024Mb of ram. I started off with 256Mb then bought another 512Mb and the difference was really noticeable. The only thing i would reccomend is buying faster DDR memory, at least pc3200. I dont know the fsb speeds on the athlon64 chips but you want to match that speed with your memory.
