Um, I have a no name Geforce 3ti with 128 mb ram which never has slowdowns on BF:1942 and a 2.4 GHz processor.  I would say not to go with the latest video cards as they are expensive and not REALLY necessary.  Maybe an ATI All-in-wonder version if you could get one cheap.  Those have some nice features!

As for mobo, go to www.newegg.com or www.zipzoomfly.com and look for one with the specs you need.  They have processors for good prices too.  If all else fails, www.pricewatch.com, baby!

yea, ive been looking at the athlons, and i was gonan go with them, but one question

someone said that with AMD processors, the numbers after em (like 3000 or 3200) basically equal the amount of GHz a intel cpu has (so 3000 for a AMD would equal 3GHz on an intel)
is that true?

and about the memory, when you say gig, do you mean get (2) 512mb sticks, or get (1) 1024mb?

hey, thanks MrCodeDude

so, lets say i think of getting a 64 bit Athlon FX (the new one that came out)
if it says its a Athlon 64 FX 3200 (just to use as an example), that would techincally mean it has 3.0ghz processing, or the equivilant to a Intel that says it has 3.0ghz processing?

Don't look into the Athlon FX route, as you have to purchase specially registerd Dimms to work with it and they work out very expensive.

I've just picked up an Atlhon 64 3200+ Asis KV8 Deluxe Mobo & Radeon 9800 and it runs like a dream

Spend the extra 20-30 bucks and get an Athlon 64 3400+. As for the graphics card wait one-two months. Nvidia and Ati just announced their new cards and the dates they will be out. The reason why I say wait is becasue you can either spend the money you were going to spend on the video card on the new ones or buy the same card just for alot less.

Here is the link with the release dates for the new cards.

"ATI's R420 (AGP Radeon X800) will debut April 26 as Radeon X800 Pro. NVIDIA's NV40 (GeForce 6800) officially launches April 13th"

where the hell do you shop??  more like a $130 difference between the 3200 & 3400. for a "real world" speed upgrade of not a great deal. (the link below is a comparison test of all processors)

It's only worth going for the 3400+ if you are looking into purchasing a 9800XT to partner it, otherwise you are just wasting money.
