Replace Xbox Controller Cord

I have fixed several of these controllers.  Yes, you will have to desolder that white clip and clear the residual solder out of the holes on the PCB.

BTW, have you found a source for new cords yet, or are you just transplanting used ones?

I can tell you what I do a lot though.  I just cut off the end of the bad cord about an inch away from the strain relief as that is where the break in connection always occurs.  I then drill out the cord stub from the strain relief so I can fish the end of the cord back through it.  Then I strip the wires, tin them, and solder them back to the PCB accordingly (you can use that white clip as a guide to which color wires go back where).  I then put a tie wrap on the cord on the inside of the controller just inside the strain relief to keep it from getting pulled back out.  I also apply some silicone on top of the tie wrap and mash it into the end of the strain relief in the same area to secure it.  Then just reassemble the unit.

I have fixed about half a dozen controllers like this.  The only downside is that the cord is about four inches shorter that it originally was and you are missing the top ferrite (which really doesn't hurt anything).

This is not an easy process if you have never done it before but it does work.  If you don't feel like fooling with them and would like to sell those five controllers let me know.

Good luck.
