Before I got the Aero 7, I had temps in the high 40s and some in the 50s.

AMD processors are only meant to not work correctuly once the temperature goes above 65-70C. Currently mine goes between 41-48C. IT should be alright at around 50C.

Yeah, I used to use a noisier fan with a higher air flow that kept my cpu temp ~ 38C.  The noise annoyed me so I swapped it for a quieter fan, and the temperature now idles around 50C going up to 55C if the heating is on and Im doing some encoding or something.

I think people put far too emphasis on the temperature of the CPU, like cram83 said, AMD say they are fine running with temps up to 70C.  As long as the system is stable then why worry about the temperature?  Set an alarm and a shutdown temp in the bios and then turn off motherboard monitor!!  Then you wont know the temp and you will be happy!!

I guess there is the issue of the lifespan of the chip, but if it means I reduce the lifespan of the chip from 10 years to 7, then who cares, I seriously doubt I will be using the same chip in 7 years.

I think past 60 the life starts to drop significantly, so no more than a few years if it is always 60+ under stress

you should care about temp becuase the lower the temp the more stable the system is, also for overclocking  purposes..

My intel cpu runs at 3,300 degress and runs fine. Sorry guys Thats a joke

At first I actually thought you were being serious. Then of course gut-busting hilarity ensued when you clarified that for us.

why would you care about your temp unless your running some bullshit amd cpu?

Thanks for the informative insight into the AMD CPU. I wish I had read this earlier before I bought one.

So anyway, I just bought a retail AMD XP 2.0 so it came with a heat sink. It runs at 60c and up to 67c when I'm encoding. I think the default shut-off temp is set at 80c by default. It's on almost 24/7 and hasn't crapped out yet.
So are these stock fans simply crap and something I should replace? After reading these mixed opinions about temp, I'm not sure what to think now. I know I'm  running hotter than everyone else here.
