Printing To A Shiny Card Surface

Okay, I want to print onto some cards.  They have about the same surface as a playing card but less 'wazy' for lack of a better term.  When I print to it, the ink balls up and doesnt dry.  Is there any way to make it stick? something I can do to the surface of the card?  would a laser printer do it?
